Halo Infinite Big Team Battle has been in disarray for over a month now, with many players still unable to get into any games. Following an unsuccessful hotfix last week, players can expect the next Big Team Battle update to drop in Halo Infinite as soon as next week.
It is a shame that the Big Team Battle playlist has experienced so much difficulty since the game's launch. 343 Industries was able to crank Halo Infinite's Big Team Battle up to 12v12 combat, dramatically increasing the game's scale from the modest 8-person teams from previous games. Going back to the middle of December, players have been unable to consistently queue into Big Team Battle matches, the servers constantly failing and booting players from their lobbies. 343 Industries released a hotfix a few weeks back that was supposed to address these issues, but it was sadly unsuccessful at restoring matchmaking services.
In an update to Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries provides new details about when players can expect the next Halo Infinite Big Team Battle fix. 343 Industries Community Manager Unyshek explains that by using the data from the last hotfix, the team was able to create an update that "should address the core issue impacting the BTB playlist." They explain that the team has done some play-testing and plans to send the build off for certification in the coming days. While there are a few more internal steps after certification that must be taken before the update is ready for the public, Unyshek estimates the update could be ready by Thursday, February 3.
This timeline of events is pretty consistent with Halo Infinite's previous updates. For example, Halo Infinite's unsuccessful BTB update was announced less than a week before it appeared in game, with Halo Support revealing it on Friday, January 14, and it ultimately appearing the following Thursday.
With other ongoing issues in Halo Infinite like monetization and player customization, Big Team Battle being out of commission is not great, but other game modes have kept players busy. The return of Fiesta plus the arrival of games like Tactical Slayer and Attrition have helped the game maintain healthy player counts despite being down one of its most popular modes.
Hopefully with this update, 343 Industries will have definitively snuffed out whatever bug has been plaguing Halo Infinite BTB matchmaking. For everyone that got the game over the holidays, they may finally be able to try out Halo Infinite's largest game mode.
Halo Infinite is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
