The next piece of the Halo Infinite puzzle has finally been revealed, but for those who were hoping for a campaign DLC or even a brand-new game, that's unfortunately not the case. Instead of a playable new chapter, Halo Infinite is being continued through a newly released book titled Halo: Edge of Dawn.

Since launching in 2021, Halo Infinite has had a bumpy road. Its initial launch was poorly received due to a lack of content, but in recent years, the game has grown into a stronger live-service product. However, beyond the multiplayer aspect, Halo Infinite's campaign has left a lot of franchise fans frustrated. The story concluded on an incredibly open-ended note, leaving many with questions about where the series is headed next. With developer Halo Studios keeping quiet about what's in store for the future, many have been eager to find out what awaits Master Chief after the events of Halo Infinite. Answers to some of Halo Infinite's questions are finally here, but fans will have to check out the franchise's latest novel to see where the story goes.

New Book Halo: Edge of Dawn Picks Up Where Halo Infinite Left Off

  • Halo: Edge of Dawn was released on December 16, 2025.
  • The novel is written by Kelly Gay
  • The story follows Master Chief, Fernando Esparza, and Joyeuse (The Weapon) as they work to fight the Banished.
  • The book is available via physical copy, ebook, or audiobook and is priced at $19 USD.

Halo: Edge of Dawn is published by Simon & Schuster and brings a new chapter of Master Chief's life to fans, but not in the way many were hoping for. Granted, author Kelly Gay has a long history of writing well-received Halo books, but after four years of no new game or expansion, getting the continuation through the written word and not something that's playable may be frustrating to some players. After news that Halo Studios had scrapped any plans for a campaign DLC, a lot of Halo fans have been eager to play as Master Chief in a fresh story, but it appears as though the wait will be a bit longer.

Even though this may not be the ideal way to learn what happened to Master Chief and his allies after the events of Halo Infinite, there is at least the silver lining that the Halo franchise has a long history of solid book adaptations. Books have been a huge part of Halo's history, and over the years, there have been important pieces of lore revealed through some of these adaptations. While that can be exciting for Halo fans who love to read, it can also lead to confusion for players who aren't as well-versed in the books.

Other Halo novels written by Kelly Gay include Halo: Smoke and Shadow, Halo: Renegades, Halo: Point of Light, Halo: The Rubicon Protocol, and Halo: Epitaph.

Despite Halo Infinite's official game follow-up still being shrouded in mystery, there is still fresh Halo content waiting in the wings. Halo: Campaign Evolved is introducing a new and improved version of the classic campaign next year. Of course, for some, that may not be as exciting as a completely fresh game, but it's still set to be a huge turning point for the franchise, as it will also mark Halo coming to PS5. This will be the first time that a Halo game has been playable on a Sony console, so even though it isn't a new game, it's still a big deal for the franchise as a whole. After Halo: Campaign Evolved, Halo Studios will hopefully be ready to reveal what comes next after Halo Infinite, but only time will tell. Until then, Halo fans looking for an extra dose of lore may want to check out Halo: Edge of Dawn.
