Halo Studios is retiring Halo Infinite from the Halo Championship Series after this year's event in late October. Halo Infinite has served as the official title for the Halo Championship Series since the eSports competition relaunched alongside the game in 2021. After four years as the main game featured at the popular event, the longest a single title in the Halo series has stood as the basis for major competitive play, its final run will be at this year's Halo World Championship from October 24-26.
A lot has changed for Halo Infinite in the four years it's served as the official eSports title for the series. Up until 2024, developer Halo Studios — formerly 343 Industries — had taken a seasonal approach to the game's support, adding numerous seasonal updates, balance tweaks, and content expansions that kept online play fresh and alive. Although Halo Studios has dropped the seasonal update cycle in favor of tiered Operation Passes, a recent summer update for Halo Infinite demonstrated the developer's continued dedication to the game's support, adding a brand-new weapon and several cosmetic items in the form of a new battle pass.

According to an eSports update from Halo Studios, Halo Infinite will be retired from the Halo Championship Series after its final outing at the 2025 Halo World Championship, which is being held in Seattle from October 24-26. While Halo Studios affirmed their support for Halo Infinite side events, such as online and LAN competitions, the official Halo Championship Series will be taking a hiatus. As for when the Halo Championship Series will return with a new title, the update confirms it will not be in 2026. Whether this is confirmation that players won't see a new Halo game released next year, or just that the event won't immediately pick up a new title, remains unclear.
Halo Infinite is Retiring From eSports
The announcement does fuel rumors of a big announcement for Halo at the Halo World Championship this year with a teaser that reads, "Stay tuned to HaloWC this year where we’ll share the initial details of what’s to come." Halo Studios promises to update the Halo community on developments surrounding a new eSports title, telling players to expect another update in late 2026.
What's next in store for Master Chief and the Halo franchise is anyone's guess. With a book as the only official sequel for Halo Infinite and the game's rumored story DLC never coming to fruition, it's possible that Halo Studios could be planning a proper follow-up. With the studio promising big news at this year's Halo World Championship, hopefully Halo fans won't have to wait until 2026 to catch a glimpse of the series' next chapter.
