Summary

  • In its Spring Update post, Halo Studios teases new gun known as the Mutilator.
  • The weapon is a Banished-themed shotgun slated for release with Halo Infinite's Summer Update.
  • In the meantime, Halo Studios revealed tons of new content and experiences coming over the next few months.

After months of speculation, Halo Infinite has finally teased a new gun called the Mutilator, which is coming to the game later this year. Developed by Halo Studios, Halo Infinite is the sixth mainline entry in the highly popular FPS series and the sequel to 2015's Halo 5: Guardians.

Despite splitting fans' opinion around the time of its announcement, Halo Infinite garnered a positive reception in the end when it came out in 2021, with praise directed at its noteworthy offerings for longtime fans as well as new players. Over three years after its successful launch, the Xbox-published title continues to attract several thousand players every day on Steam alone. While such numbers are a far cry from the engagement seen in Halo Infinite's first few months, it is still nothing to be taken for granted. As early as October 2024, leaks had emerged about a few different weapons being in the pipeline for the Halo sequel, including the Mutilator. Now, the devs have not just confirmed its presence but also given an estimated release window.

Halo Studios has introduced dozens of new armor sets throughout Halo Infinite's lifespan but two more armor sets could complete a collection.

On the official website of the franchise, the Halo Studios team acknowledged the forthcoming Mutilator weapon and mentioned it in the Spring Update post. The weapon is described as a Banished-themed shotgun and something that is "actively being worked on," with plans to ship the weapon with the Summer Update. While this gun is still a ways away, a rocket launcher named Fuel Rod SPNKr is set to arrive in the next Halo content drop, which will kick off on February 4, 2025, with Operation: Frontlines.

Halo Infinite to Debut the Mutilator Some Time After the Spring Update

It's worth noting that Halo Infinite's new update won't exclusively expand its arsenal of weapons but also provide new experiences in other areas. As fans wait for the Mutilator to arrive in the summer, they can try out new content coming to the game in the Spring Update, which includes three different operations, the returning game mode called Assault, several balancing changes across various weapons, an array of tweaks across different maps, among other things.

Excitingly for fans of the IP, there have recently been rumors indicating that a new Halo game could be unveiled in 2025. Keeping that in mind, enthusiasts may look forward to seeing a related announcement being made at one of the major game industry showcases of the year, such as the Summer Game Fest that takes place on June 6.
