Halo: The Master Chief Collection has received a surprising new update for September 2025. The latest update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection isn't the biggest patch it has ever received, but contains an important fix nonetheless.
Back in November 2014, Halo: The Master Chief Collection became notorious for having one of the most disastrous video game launches of all time. 343 Industries' efforts to bring all the existing Halo games at the time into one package proved to be too ambitious, leaving the multiplayer package completely broken. Despite this, the developer worked very hard for many years afterward to bring Halo: The Master Chief Collection up to standard, even going as far to add plenty of new content to the games themselves. It has been a remarkable turnaround, and now, over a decade later, it is undeniably the definitive way to experience the Halo games from Combat Evolved through to Halo 4.
October 2025 Will Be the End of an Era for Halo Infinite
A major event scheduled for later this year marks the end of an era for the popular sci-fi first-person shooter Halo Infinite.
Patch notes for the new Halo: The Master Chief Collection update were posted to Halo Waypoint. It includes just a single patch note, fixing an issue that was previously impacting cross-platform matchmaking on the Xbox PC and Microsoft Store app versions of the game. According to Halo Studios, players on either of these storefronts "may not experience faster matchmaking searches." Despite only affecting some players, a download is still required on all platforms.
While this new update is only small, it's good to see that Halo Studios is still tuned in and ready to fix any issues that may arise with the game. The last major content update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection was back in July 2023, so it's fair to suggest that the bulk of the game's support is over and done with, but there's always the possibility of more small fixes like this in the future.
The Halo franchise is in for an interesting few years. Series developer 343 Industries rebranded to Halo Studios in late 2024, announcing that Halo would move to Unreal Engine 5 at the same time. Fans are yet to see the result of this shift, with no new Halo game currently announced. Rumors of the franchise heading to PlayStation for the first time also endure, which would be a seismic change in direction for what once Xbox's flagship product.
