2025 has been one earth-shattering announcement after another when it comes to PlayStation and Xbox knocking down the barriers between the two platforms and effectively ending the console wars. Xbox got things going last year when it brought a handful of its games to PlayStation, but ramped things up considerably in 2025 with the release of games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5 on PS5.
PlayStation, to its credit, has also given Xbox some games in return. The MLB: The Show games have been coming to Xbox for years now (though that wasn't actually up to PlayStation) and more recently, Helldivers 2 came to Xbox. Many Xbox owners had been clamoring for the popular live-service co-op game to make its way to Xbox and were elated when it did. The same day that Helldivers 2 came to Xbox, Gears of War: Reloaded came to PS5.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is Coming to PS5 in 2026
The day that Helldivers 2 and Gears of War: Reloaded released on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, respectively, back in August was the first day that hell froze over for PlayStation and Xbox this year. Now hell has frozen over again, as something that would have been unthinkable even two years ago has finally come to pass: Xbox has confirmed that Halo is coming to PS5. As announced at the Halo World Championships, Xbox's flagship Halo franchise will make its PS5 debut with Halo: Campaign Evolved next year.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of the original Halo game's campaign. It boasts significantly improved graphics, brand-new missions, 2-player split-screen, and 4-player online co-op. Its release on PS5 will break 25-year streak of Halo games releasing as Xbox console exclusives. It is also effectively the final nail in the coffin when it comes to the console wars. It's clear that Xbox is not interested in trying to compete in the console space like it once did.
It remains to be seen if PlayStation will return the favor by bringing an equivalent franchise to Xbox. PlayStation has shown a willingness to bring many of its big games to PC, so perhaps it can be convinced to do the same for Xbox. There are rumors that the next-gen Xbox will have access to Steam, and if that proves to be true, PlayStation exclusives will effectively become playable on Xbox hardware anyway. Regardless, while Xbox insists it is making a next-generation console, it giving up its exclusives is the end of an era, and Halo coming to PS5 is truly hell freezing over for both brands.
