Additional details about the gameplay of Halo: Combat Evolved's rumored remake have emerged, stating that it will feature some updated ways for players to move and fight in the field of battle. There's still no official confirmation that a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is happening at Microsoft, but a reputable leaker seems confident in its existence and about changes from the original game.
Rumors about a remake of the first Halo game started popping up in early 2024, with projections that it would be released sometime in 2026. The news has been exciting to many of the Microsoft faithful, as the game's original 2001 release marked the first major hit for the Xbox brand and has spawned a franchise that includes six mainline games, several spin-offs, and even a two-season-long live-action streaming television series on Paramount+.
October 24 Could Officially Be the Day That Hell Freezes Over for PlayStation and Xbox
If recent rumors are to be believed, Friday, October 24 could be the day that hell truly freezes over for PlayStation and Xbox.
Halo Remake Reportedly Updates Gameplay
A new report from Halo Leaks account on Twitter states that the game is being built using "modern gameplay mechanics." It doesn't go into too much detail on how these mechanics will differ from the original game's controls and features, but one change it tells fans to expect is the addition of sprinting. This gameplay mechanic wasn't available in the original releases of the first three mainline Halo games, and it made its franchise debut as one of the new features in Halo Reach, which was released in 2010. Similar gameplay mechanics to the ones being used in the remake are also reportedly being developed for an upcoming Halo multiplayer game which has been floating around the rumor mill under the title Project Ekur, but which Halo Leaks believes is also the multiplayer element for Halo 7.
The existence of a separate multiplayer Halo game is also a rumor that has been shared by multiple sources. In July, Rebs Gaming reported that multiplayer mode could be a missing feature in the Halo: Combat Evolved remake, after he reportedly spoke with two different sources connected to the development of Halo games, both of whom denied knowing anything about a multiplayer element. Rebs Gaming also hinted at the possibility of a sprint feature being added to the game in early October.
While fans have had to rely solely on leaks and rumors for news about the potential upcoming Halo projects, that could change soon. The Halo World Championships are set for October 24, and developers behind the franchise have stated that they will be revealing some of the projects they have been working on during that competition. There's no guarantee that the remake or the multiplayer project will be up for discussion, but since both rumored games are hot topics in the Halo community, it's likely they will at least be addressed.
