Summary

  • A new Avalanche Software job listing all but confirms the development of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel.
  • The job listing hints at a story set in the wizarding world with branching storytelling elements.
  • The job requirements could point to the new game having some sort of morality system, which was missing from the original title.

A new job listing from Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software has all but confirmed that a sequel to the 2023 title is currently in development. Previous job listings had already suggested as much, but this new one, which is for a Senior Writer, pretty much spells it out with one of its main requirements.

According to the job listing in question, the successful candidate will need to be a talented storyteller with "a deep understanding of the wizarding world." Later on in the "essentials" section, it's made clear that whoever gets the job will be writing a story for a role-playing game; further strengthening the idea that the successful candidate will be working on a Hogwarts Legacy sequel.

Hogwarts Legacy visual upgrades on PS5 Pro
Hogwarts Legacy Getting Big PS5 Pro Upgrade

Hogwarts Legacy is one of 13 games getting a PS5 Pro upgrade at the console's launch in November, and the differences are stunning.

Whether or not this new game will continue the story from Hogwarts Legacy or mark the beginning of a brand-new adventure is anybody's guess, but there are one or two clues that may point to the former. The listing mentions that the successful candidate will need to ensure the authenticity of the writing in "the country and era in which the story takes place," suggesting that, just like the first game, this new one could be set deep in the past.

However, even if the story does follow on from the original game, the way that players experience it could end up being very different. Avalanche is hoping to hire a writer with "a deep understanding of [...] Branching storytelling," which could point to a very different approach being taken this time around. Hogwarts Legacy does provide players with a few choices throughout the course of its main story, but these are largely inconsequential when all's said and done.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Feature a Morality System

The idea of a branching storyline should come as good news to Harry Potter fans, many of whom were left disappointed by the complete lack of consequences for using unforgivable curses in Hogwarts Legacy. A branching storyline could change all of that though, particularly if it factors in the moral implications of the player's dialogue choices as well as the spells that they use in combat.

Of course, it's important to note that this job listing could be for some other game or project, although, given the direct references to the wizarding world, that seems fairly unlikely. At the very least, it seems safe to say that Avalanche Software is working on another project that utilizes the Harry Potter IP, which should come as excellent news to franchise fans.
