Marvel Is Placing Too Much Pressure On Fantastic Four: First Steps

Marvel is placing too much pressure on The Fantastic Four: First Steps to deliver a knockout for the MCU.

A lot of actors are now looking to get involved in the MCU due to the big opportunity, and the role of Richards is certainly an interesting one due to how important the character is. That is why former Harry Potter star David Tennant revealed that he was interested in the part during an appearance at MCM Comic Con in London.

He said, "I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction. Although, you know, if it has to be someone, I'm very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal, frankly."

Tennant has experience being part of major franchises, having played Barty Crouch Jr. In the Harry Potter film series. At the same time, he's best known for playing iconic science fiction star Doctor Who. He's also someone who has been involved with Marvel before, as he played the villain Kilgrave in the Jessica Jones series. However, with that being one of the hit Netflix shows, he hasn't technically been involved in the MCU until now. Richards was just one role that he wished he could play, and while Pascal is taking it on right now, that doesn't rule him out for the future. The multiverse storyline could see other people take on the role at some stage, with John Krasinski having already had a brief cameo as Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Fans have had brief glimpses of what Pascal will bring to the role of Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and so far, the fan feedback has been positive. However, it will remain to be seen precisely what spin that Star Wars actor has put on it compared to those who played the role during the Fox versions of the Fantastic Four.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is an essential film for Marvel, given the current interest in the franchise being down. However, with a talented group of actors being put together and a lot of fan interest, this film could put a lot of positivity back into the franchise. This will also be the final release before Avengers: Doomsday, which has recently been pushed back. The delay in that movie will place even more importance on The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Pascal is going to be a significant part of that.
