Summary
- Hawkeye season 2 planned without Renner
- Kate Bishop may lead
- Respect for Barton's character paramount
Hawkeye was a Marvel Studios miniseries that ran in 2021. Jeremy Renner reprised his role as Clint Barton to team up with the young Kate Bishop in a detailed and interesting show with loose connections to Christmas. The series proved to be popular with fans, earning a 92 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, after Renner shockingly revealed he was offered the chance to do Hawkeye season two, but for less money than the first, it appears that the long-term future of this show is unclear. Nothing is off limits within the Marvel Cinematic Universe so that the show could return down the line, but it cannot happen without Renner's involvement.
Hawkeye Season 2 Should Just Be A Movie Instead
A potential second season of Hawkeye should just be turned into Marvel's next blockbuster film instead.
Marvel Is Considering Hawkeye Season 2 Without Jeremy Renner
Kate Bishop Would Work As The Lead Star
The original season of Hawkeye had a brilliant cast, with Renner taking on the titular role, while Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin. It's a fantastic set of characters, and the fact that several of them have gone on to do great things in the franchise is telling. However, the strength of these characters is why Marvel might consider putting a second season of Hawkeye together, even if Renner isn't going to be involved. It would be simple enough for a storyline to be written that explains his absence, while the rest would be able to pick up the slack to tell something interesting and engaging.
According to industry insider MyTimeToShineH, that is exactly what Marvel Studios intends to do. A second season of Hawkeye is still slated to happen, with Marvel wanting to tell that story, and Steinfeld will be in the lead role this time. While it makes sense that she would take on a more significant role as the show was built to be a passing of the torch from Hawkeye to Bishop moving forward, not having Renner as part of the show in any form would be a major mistake on Marvel's behalf.
Marvel Fans Would Be Expecting To See Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner Is The Lead Star Of This Series
The main problem with not having Renner in the second season of Hawkeye is the fact that he is the lead actor for this series. He is Hawkeye; therefore, not having him be part of the show would be a baffling decision. The likes of Bishop and Yelena are characters that have a long-term future within the franchise, but they don't need a second season of Hawkeye to do that. Pugh's breathtaking performance in Thunderbolts* is proof of that, and while they all should be part of Hawkeye season two to continue the story, they don't need to be the lead stars of it. Hawkeye should focus on Renner's character, as Barton is someone audiences are heavily invested in due to how many years he has been involved in the MCU. Simply ditching him at this stage would be a serious shame, given all the effort that has been put into him.
As the lead star who the show is named after, it's hard to imagine it making much sense without Renner having some involvement, whether that's as the lead star or not. It's unlikely that Marvel would have created a season of Loki without Tom Hiddleston involved or a movie without the titular character being part of it, so why should that happen with Hawkeye? If Renner won't get involved, then it would likely be a smarter decision not to do a second season of the Disney Plus series at all rather than force it throughout without Renner's involvement.
Hawkeye Season Two Should Wrap Up Clint Barton's Story
It's The Respect That This Character Deserves
The story of Barton has been one of the most interesting within the MCU, given how much detail and emotion has been pumped into him, especially in later performances when he was given more focus. Hawkeye has shown a darker side while also opening up about the family aspect of his life, and the Disney Plus series ended up diving into his world even further. It was one of Marvel's strongest shows. Therefore, it would make sense to create a second season to keep telling that story, but only if it's right. Marvel will be able to wrap up Barton's story perfectly with a second season of Hawkeye, allowing Bishop to replace him in the long term, whether in future movies or a television series of her own.
Barton and Renner deserve that level of respect from Marvel Studios after how many years he has been involved. Most of the other original Avengers have been given an ideal sendoff, with Thor rumored to be getting the same treatment soon. That's something that should happen with Barton in the future, and Hawkeye is the right way to do that for this particular character, which is why he should be involved if a second season was to take place.
