Hearthstone recently shared the patch notes for the new March of the Lich King set. Once the new expansion is live, Hearthstone players can collect 145 cards from the new set, make decks using the new Death Knight class, and experiment with new content coming to the game’s many modes.
March of the Lich King goes live on December 6, but the accompanying patch will be available on November 29. Once the expansion is officially released, the rest of the content from the new patch will be accessible, including the Death Knight Prologue solo content and the Path of Arthas Death Knight mini-set.
In addition to the new card types, keywords, and class coming in March of the Lich King, the expansion introduces tons of new content. Players can look forward to a Death Knight launch event accompanying the expansion’s release. Like the Hallow’s End event in early November, players can participate in the event using the new event rewards track to earn a pack, a card back, and playsets of three March of the Lich King Signature Cards–a new type of uncraftable collectible. Players can look forward to a Winterveil event in the near future.
The various game modes of Hearthstone are also getting some love in March of the Lich King. The Enhance-o-Mechano hero is coming to Hearthstone along with an Enhance-o-Matic quest reward. Warcraft’s favorite bronze dragon Chromie is coming to Mercenaries along with the March of the Lich King rewards track, and a new season of Arena will begin with the new card set. Lastly, the Duels mode is getting a big overhaul. Beyond the new set, card buckets are being revamped to provide smarter options for in-progress decks, and two new Death Knight heroes–Scarlet Leafdancer and Shai Shadestorm–are being added to the pool.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Hearthstone patch without a couple nerfs. Theotar–a powerful Legendary that has seen an absurd amount of play since its release in Murder at Castle Nathria–is being nerfed again, and Ice Revenant is being nerfed due to unexpected synergy with the new Death Knight’s Frost Rune cards. These cards will be available for a full dust refund once the patch goes live.
Hearthstone is also improving its duplicate protection system as well. If players collect an uncraftable version of a card, like a Signature or Diamond Hearthstone card, and earn another copy of the card at a lower rarity, they will immediately have the chance to re-roll the lower-rarity card into a different one from the same set–even if they pull Signature cards from a pack. This new system should make collecting Signature cards more rewarding, even if players already own the normal or Golden versions of those cards.
Hearthstone is available now for mobile and PC. March of the Lich King launches on December 6.
