There are seven hobbies you will unlock in Heartopia as you make progress through the developer's Guild and complete quests for the townspeople. One of these hobbies is Bird Watching, and you guessed it: it involves using a scanner/binoculars to spot birds and snap photos of them without getting too close (or else you'll scare them off!).
If you want to learn how to unlock the Bird Watching hobby in Heartopia and what to do with the bird Info Cards taking up space in your inventory, you have come to the right place.
All Animal Trough Locations in Heartopia (& Favorite Foods)
There are eight different species of animals to interact with in Heartopia, but you'll need to find their troughs first to feed them.
How to Unlock the Bird Watching Hobby in Heartopia
Chirp, Chirp
You'll be able to get into Bird Watching once you reach Developer Level 6 in Heartopia. At this point, you will get a Hobby Expansion Ticket and can choose to learn the new skill from Bailey J (who is located above the pet shop in the central plaza area).
However, if you decide to use your expansion ticket for another hobby first, like Insect Catching or Cooking, you'll need to wait a bit before you get another ticket, so it's up to you to decide what you want to invest time in first.
If you can't find the Birdwatching Station, just open your map and look for Bailey J and then hit the big Track button.
How to Use the Bird Scanner and Take Pictures of Birds in Heartopia
It's Like Pokemon Snap!
Click your tools button in the bottom-right corner, then equip the bird scanner. From here, you can bust it out and use the slider on the left to zoom in and out to get a closer look at birds. Be sure not to get too close to them, or else they'll just fly away.
First, you'll have access to two specific actions: Foraging and Chirping. If you watch a bird long enough until they make a special motion, you'll get bonus stars, resulting in higher-rated Info Cards and more points towards your Birdwatching proficiency level. As you upgrade your hobby, you'll gain access to even more actions, leading to better pictures. You can practice scanning birds at the Bird Ringing Station, but they won't be recorded in your bird collection. You will still get proficiency points, though!
Once your scanner's durability runs low, you can start taking pictures again by using a Repair Kit. These items can be crafted at a bench and will essentially replenish the "health" of the tool you currently have equipped.
What to do With Bird Info Cards in Heartopia?
Recycling Time
Every time you snap a photo of a bird in Heartopia, you'll start to see a collection of Info Cards building up in your inventory. At first, you can sell them to Albert (the gold merchant) for a couple of coins, but you actually should save them until you increase your Birdwatching to level 2 (after getting 200 Proficiency points).
You'll get Hobby Upgrade Tickets by leveling up your Guild rank and by completing Collection challenges for different hobbies. You can then use the ticket to upgrade your level to two in the Hobbies menu. The second level of Birdwatching will unlock new birds and also Info Card recycling with Bailey J.
You can now speak to Bailey J, and the option to Submit Info Cards will become available. As far as we know, you can give Bailey up to five Info Cards a day. The first time we submitted them, they gave us four Repair Kits and 25 Quality Timber, but the rewards might change each day. Still, these rewards will be miles better than the measly Gold you'll get by selling the cards to Albert Jr.
