The Caddell Family Treasure is the first 'mystery' in Hell Is Us that you'll come across, as it's found in Senedra Forest not long after you encounter the wounded soldier. However, to solve it, you need to read the riddle or hint that one of the Caddell children has left that hints at its location, and then find the landmarks it's referring to within the nearby area. How to Start the Caddell Family Treasure Mystery in Hell Is Us
After speaking to the wounded soldier, he'll task you with finding him a medkit by following the X's on the trees in the woods west of him. Go to the left of the fallen tree and right in front of you, there will be a rock pile with a yellow glint at the top of it.
Interact with this to receive the hint itself, which reads: "You dummies won't ever find whjere I hid the key! You're all too stupid! Arloh can't even read, 4 eyes Gus is probably too blind to see the red boulder, and Atti's too small to climb all the way up the hill!"
This might have been something you uncovered in the Hell Is Us demo.
Where to Find the Red Boulder in Hell Is Us' Caddell Family Treasure Mystery
Continue to follow the X's on the trees along the winding path up the hill until you see a pile of barrels with an X on one at the bottom (shown in the screenshot below). To the right, you'll find the soldier's camp with the medkit (and a vial of a strange substance). However, just before the pile of barrels, there is another turning that'll take you back on yourself up a hill. Head up here to find the red boulder (which is just another pile of red-colored stones) at the very edge.
Interacting with this will then give you 'Key - Rusted,' but the in-game description won't tell you where to use it.
Where to Use the Rusted Key in Hell Is Us' Caddell Family Treasure Mystery
Make your way back down towards the rusted soldier, and you'll see a blue boulder (pile of blue stones) on a ledge to your left. When you see this, turn back around and look for an X-marked tree with some wooden pallets next to it. To the right of these, between some trees, you'll find a hidden path. Head up here and take a right when the path splits off. Drop down the ledge and you'll find the blue stone pile right in front of you with a locked treasure chest next to it.
Use the rusted key to open the treasure chest and receive your reward for completing the Caddell Family Treasure mystery, a congratulations message, and the Bracelet of Ecstasy - Wanton Destruction.
The bracelet can be equipped in one of your gear slots, and grants the following buffs:
- Damage Absorption: 5%
- Endurance Bonus: +500
- Stamina Cost Reduction: 40%
- Effect: While grievously wounded, reduce the Stamina cost of all actions.
You'll also unlock the 'Amateur Detective' achievement/ trophy if this is the first mystery you've resolved. There's also a Golden Watch Good Deed you can complete in Senedra Forest after making your way through the ruins.
