Developer Ninja Theory has revealed Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced Edition, a new version of the action-adventure game with new features and visual improvements, and has announced its release on PlayStation 5 this summer. The Enhanced Edition of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will also be available for Xbox and PC as an update.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. The first game, released in 2017, offered a captivating experience following Senua, a Celtic warrior, through a treacherous land where she has to fight against the demons in her mind, materialized as real-life creatures. Hellblade delivered a compelling narrative that captured the attention of thousands of fans worldwide, prompting Ninja Theory to develop a sequel that was released in 2024. Much like the first title, the story explores her mental health struggles, represented through hallucinations and internal voices. The sequel received positive feedback from players, and now the developer has more good news for fans.

To celebrate Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2's anniversary, Ninja Theory has announced that the game is coming to PS5 and PS5 Pro this summer. Moreover, this version of the game—called the Enhanced Edition—will include new features and improved visuals. Studio Head Dom Matthews said the team has been working hard to optimize the game and deliver the “best experience we can.” The Enhanced Edition will also be available to PC and Xbox players as a free update. Matthews hasn’t provided any specific details about what these “new features” include, so players will need to wait a little longer to find out.

When is Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced Edition Releasing?

While the sequel has indeed been very popular among fans—currently boasting a “Very Positive” rating on Steam—Hellblade 2 sales weren’t as strong in the United States. By May 2024, the game ranked 37th in U.S. Game sales and 21st on Xbox Series consoles. While this may have been due in part to its launch on Xbox Game Pass on day one, another possible reason was its $50 price tag, which many considered expensive given its mere 7 hours of gameplay.

Nevertheless, Ninja Theory had said it wanted to deliver a small-scale experience with Hellblade 2, staying true to the first entry in the franchise. This approach allowed the developer to represent the heavy themes in Hellblade 2 and make the narrative feel natural, avoiding tedious gameplay sessions. Now, PS5 players can look forward to exploring Senua’s journey with new features and optimized visuals this summer.
