Helldivers 2 recently called in a huge nuke and shadow-dropped Omens of Tyranny, an expansive update finally featuring the Illuminate, which was announced and revealed at The Game Awards 2024. Helldivers 2 has no shortage of new content for players to experience between an alien enemy faction returning from the original Helldivers as well as a brand-new Premium Warbond, Urban Legends, accompanying it as 2024 comes to a close.

Omens of Tyranny is a colossal update and as such it wouldn’t be surprising if Helldivers 2 has a relatively quiet start to the new year. Still, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2025 as Helldivers 2’s Arrowhead explicitly stated during its ‘Best Ongoing Game’ Game Awards win that it is “very committed to keep going with this game for many more years to come,” even if what that will look like precisely may not be abundantly clear yet.

Helldivers 2 Premium Warbonds Will Continue to Drop in 2025

It’s guaranteed that Helldivers 2’s model of Premium Warbonds will be par the course well into the future due to its lack of controversy and overall positive reception. There’s currently no reason to suspect that the approach to Premium Warbonds and how they launch will change. Rather, seeing as how Warbonds have evolved to include more substantial content throughout 2024, players should be able to expect that Warbonds will always have a meaty amount of content that makes sure to touch on the following:

  • New body armor, capes, and helmets.
  • New boosters.
  • New stratagems.
  • New emotes.
  • New titles.
  • New player card backgrounds.
  • New Hellpod, Exosuit, and vehicle color palette patterns.
  • New primary weapons, secondary weapons (which may now include more melee weapons in the future), and throwables.
  • Supplementary super credits.

Possible New Iterations on Melee Weapons in Helldivers 2

It may be easy to overlook given how much was shadow-dropped into Helldivers 2 for the Omens of Tyranny update, such as a brand-new Fast Recon land vehicle, but actual melee weapons are now a part of the game and not as an extension of a firearm.

So far, Helldivers 2’s newly released Urban Legends Premium Warbond debuted the CQC-19 Stun Lance while the Superstore featured a Stun Baton for a limited time. These melee weapons are great as they subtly inform players of how well stuns would work on the Illuminate faction, and yet the bigger precedent set here is that melee weapons, on a macrocosmic scale, may become a regular fixture of subsequent updates and weapon additions.

This could help balance the number of utility-oriented one-handed tools that have been implemented into Helldivers 2 and, of course, with melee weapons being in high demand for quite some time it’s surely an area Arrowhead can afford to play around in and experiment with, potentially giving players formidable options that eclipse some primary weapons. The Stun Lance and Stun Baton are wonderful first steps for melee weapons, and it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see new melee weapons added sooner than later, perhaps with even wilder and more bombastic utility options.

Now That the Illuminate Has Arrived in Helldivers 2, the Sky is the Limit

Helldivers 2’s Illuminate has been anticipated since its leak a while back and now that the alien invasion has begun it is anyone’s guess what 2025 could have in store regarding big content updates. It would be phenomenal if Helldivers’ sequel was the entry to introduce a brand-new enemy faction, for instance, but since Helldivers 2 has only now launched the Illuminate 10 months after its release it seems fair to presume that the game’s focus will revolve solely around Terminids, Automatons, and Illuminate in 2025.

That said, the bugs and bots evolved drastically with enormous additions to their ranks throughout 2024 and the same can likely be expected for the Illuminate. Helldivers 2 is ending 2024 with a massive, long-awaited bang, and what it looks like a year from now will be fascinating to see.
