When playing Helldivers 2, gamers must make all the necessary preparations if they want to achieve Super Earth's goal of galactic freedom. Having offensive options when going up against the units of the Terminids, Automatons, and the returning Illuminate is key, but defensive ones are just as important, which is where armor comes in. The game has many different types, with each having at least one or two passives tied to it that provide helpful benefits, like damage reduction or additional ammunition. While the current state of Helldivers 2's armor can be seen as balanced in terms of gameplay, perhaps it may be time for them to see some form of change, specifically in the passive ability area.
Choosing the right armor to wear in Helldivers 2 can mean the difference between survival or being killed in a variety of situations. The passive abilities that they provide make them so that they're an integral part of gameplay, but there is a chance that they could be altered. CEO Shams Jorjani of Arrowhead Game Studios, the game's developer, has made a statement about wanting a rework on armor passives, and perhaps providing additional slots so that each piece has more to offer could be one of those changes. It would be an interesting move to make, and one that could either improve or worsen the state of Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2: What Could a Gas Giant Planet Look Like?
The world of Helldivers 2 is full of many planets that players can explore and liberate, but there has yet to be one full of nothing but gas.
How Additional Armor Slots Can Help Improve Helldivers 2
If Arrowhead Game Studios decides to add more slots for Helldivers 2's armor passives, the game could be better for the following reasons:
- More passive slots for a single armor piece could improve the utility of each one, giving players more freedom on how to approach their missions.
- The addition of more slots could inspire more creative ideas and better-looking designs to help them make sense visually, which could help ensure that future premium Warbonds of Helldivers 2 have appealing armor on offer.
Such a change would certainly have a significant effect on Helldivers 2's gameplay, which could either be well-received or shunned by players depending on its execution. Regardless of how people would feel about it, the decision to push forward with it would certainly be fascinating due to what's possible with its implementation, making it something Arrowhead Game Studios should strongly consider.
Why More Armor Slots Can Also Lead To More Problems for Helldivers 2
If a piece of equipment has more than one or two armor perks in Helldivers 2, it could lead to some serious balancing issues. There is the possibility that missions could become much easier than intended due to the numerous passive buffs one can have, turning situations that would have been dangerous and exciting into minor obstacles instead. Also, mixing in different buffs could lead to unintended effects that could be game-breaking if not handled right, such as multiple damage resistances increasing one's defensive capabilities so high that players no longer fear getting hurt. Given how much time and effort it would take to ensure it doesn't ruin the gameplay experience, it would be understandable if Arrowhead Game Studios decided to opt out of bringing in more armor passive slots.
The possibility of changing Helldivers 2's armor system by allowing armor to have more than two passives can be seen as a bold and risky move, but perhaps it could also be the correct one. So long as Arrowhead Game Studios considers all the balancing potential problems that come with the change and prevents them from happening, it's likely that it could be a decision fans will be happy with in the long run.
