Sadly, Helldivers 2’s previous Major Order, tasking players with liberating three Automaton-invaded planets, failed overnight. It was a losing battle that anyone could’ve foreseen failure in due to how little of Claorell had been liberated when players finally held Gaellivare and transferred the DSS with a mere eight-and-a-half hours remaining before the MO expired. Nonetheless, Helldivers 2’s Arrowhead has announced a two-week vacation for staff while urging that “service continues, the Galactic War rages on, and Super Earth still needs you. We’ll be back soon, recharged and ready to drop even harder. FOR SUPER EARTH!”
It’s yet to be known what precisely the previous MO’s failure could mean for the narrative in Helldivers 2. But, even as the developer enters its ‘Swedish Summer Protocol’ of relaxation, the next week is already mapped out with what is sure to be an all-encompassing and herculean feat for players to accomplish.
Helldivers 2’s New Major Order May Not Be the Status Quo, But It Should Be
Helldivers 2's Major Orders have a terrific excuse to remain as challenging and elaborate as possible, with its latest one demonstrating why.
Helldivers 2’s New Week-Long Major Order is Sure to Occupy Players
As Arrowhead goes on vacation and potentially prepares for a big return, it’s quite hilarious and on-the-nose that it would decide to fill players’ plates with a Helldivers 2 Major Order that looks more like a ridiculous killing spree chore list than something as pointed and narrative-focused as the one that Helldivers just failed. Indeed, there may have been no better way for Arrowhead to announce its vacation than to give players an overwhelming and laughable number of enemies to kill.
Helldivers 2’s current Major Order, with six days left, reads:
-
Kill the designated number of each of the enemies that most frequently plague our citizens’ nightmares.
- Kill 20,000,000 Shriekers
- Kill 12,500,000 Impalers
- Kill 6,250,000 Factory Striders
- Kill 7,500,000 Fleshmobs
- Kill 3,750,000 Leviathans
This is hardly the highest number of individual enemies that players have been tasked with killing before, as just last month, a Major Order required players to kill a staggering 290,000,000 squids and 2,900,000,000 bugs. Despite the number of enemies players must fell, however, Helldivers may be pleased to see an MO that doesn’t have an elaborate objective associated with campaigns. There’s an argument to be made that not enough players were diving on Helldivers 2’s Mega Cities during the previous MO, and that success may have been far more likely if more players were aware that city liberations contribute greatly to overall planet liberation.
Thankfully, this MO merely tasks players with killing certain enemy types from each enemy faction, particularly the ones that “plague our citizens’ nightmares,” and many of these enemies can be nightmarish in battle.
For instance, Helldivers 2’s Leviathans are so great a foe that they can turn players away from Illuminate missions if they’ve been tormented by them before. Either way, this should theoretically be a far easier MO for players to succeed since mission, objective, operation, and campaign efforts are of little importance, and all attention can be focused on slaying Helldivers 2’s hardest faction enemies as soon as they’re discovered and/or pinged.
Helldivers 2’s New Major Order is Terrific for Bugdivers, Botdivers, and Squiddivers Alike
Furthermore, a brilliant aspect of the current Major Order is that it is essentially an indiscriminate buffet of all Helldivers 2’s enemy factions. Terminids, Automatons, and Illuminate are all represented, meaning that players aren’t restricted to one or two factions when they might’ve preferred the third instead. This should hopefully appease any diver—be they a Bugdiver, Botdiver, or Squiddiver—and it’ll be fascinating to see which faction has its MO objective completed first as the week progresses and Arrowhead enjoys its vacation.
