Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has responded after some Helldivers 2 players asked about the possibility of bigger lobbies in the game. Based on his response, Helldivers 2 fans shouldn't get their hopes up for expanded lobbies anytime soon.

Helldivers 2 players are in quite a unique situation in that they have an avenue to get their voices heard by the developer's CEO directly in Discord. Jorjani frequently fields questions from Helldivers 2 fans in the game's Discord server, answering to the best of his ability. The answers aren't always what fans want them to be, but it helps to give players a realistic look at what both the near and distant future of Helldivers 2 will look like.

Helldivers 2 CEO Says Bigger Lobbies Would 'Kill' Performance

A recent Discord interaction involving Jorjani saw the CEO answering a fan's question about the chances of adding larger squad sizes to Helldivers 2. Jorjani responded by saying, "my man, we're trying to fix performance. Not kill it." When asked why both wasn't possible, Jorjani said that he "can give you 16 player lobbies tomorrow," alongside "16 fps." He did follow up by saying that the literal idea that he could provide 16-player lobbies immediately "was a joke," but his general point that more players would destroy the frame rate (and that being a reason to reject expanded lobbies) remains valid.

Jorjani's comments are especially important considering the current state of Helldivers 2. It's no secret that Helldivers 2's performance seems to be getting worse with every update, to the point where it is becoming unavoidable for Arrowhead Game Studios to ignore. The developer has claimed that fixing performance in the game is a key issue right now. In this context, it's easy to see why expanded lobbies would be very far down on the developer's list of priorities right now, even if it was something it desperately wanted to do.

While expanded lobbies may not be on the way any time soon, Helldivers 2 updates aren't going anywhere. Just recently, Jorjani claimed that there are no plans for Helldivers 3, and instead the studio is planning to make Helldivers 2 a "forever game," with constant updates for years to come. When performance issues are ironed it, it will be interesting to see if the idea of bigger lobbies is revisited.
