It’s no secret that Helldivers 2 is going through a rough patch, with the game facing several controversies in the last few months regarding weapon balancing changes and the PlayStation account link situation still lingering unresolved. Many of the players who aren’t happy with the current state of the game have taken to review-bombing Helldivers 2, boycotting the game, or both. However, one growing group of players has taken a more creative approach to protesting the recent changes to the game.
Despite some of the controversies the game has faced, Helldivers 2 has still retained a following of dedicated fans. Among those who still regularly play Helldivers 2 is a large portion of players who enjoy role-playing, leaning into the game’s military sim elements. One such fan community that has become a hot topic across Helldivers 2’s social media groups is the Chaosdivers.
Helldivers 2’s Chaosdivers Fan-Made Faction Explained
Players who are involved in some of Helldivers 2’s social media groups or the game’s official Discord server may have seen mention of the developers responding to players' requests to add a clans/platoons feature to the game. While the possibility of this feature coming to a future update for Helldivers 2 remains uncertain for the time being, some players have already begun forming organized groups outside of the game. One of these new fan-made factions, the Chaosdivers, has become a relatively hot topic within the game’s community, partly due to some bad apples that have given this group a poor reputation.
So far, there has been no official confirmation of whether a clan-like social feature will be introduced to Helldivers 2. However, developers in the game’s official Discord server have mentioned that it is being considered for a future update.
Chaosdivers Are Against Griefing and Friendly Fire in Helldivers 2
Over on the many community Subreddits dedicated to the game, Chaosdivers have become a trending topic after a few players shared experiences where Chaosdivers disrupted missions by team-killing in Helldivers 2. Despite the Chaosdivers having a strict policy against intentional friendly fire and griefing, posts like this on the r/Helldivers2 Subreddit have given the Chaosdivers a misleading reputation.
While it’s unclear if these are truthful stories of Chaosdivers purposefully griefing, as mentioned, Chaosdivers explicitly denounce any kind of griefing, including intentional friendly fire. According to the r/Chaosdivers Subreddit, Chaosdivers are a roleplaying community who share a resentment for Helldivers 2’s recent balancing changes, yet they continue to play the game despite its flaws.
Chaosdivers Make Their Own Major Orders in Helldivers 2
As a lore-accurate way of protesting Helldivers 2’s controversial weapon nerfs, Chaosdivers intentionally avoid participating in the current Major Order to show their distrust of Super Earth’s high command. There is an important distinction to make regarding the Chaosdiver’s signature brand of in-game protests though, which is to say that they aren’t griefers. Instead of purposely failing the current Major Orders in Helldivers 2 by griefing public lobbies and/or intentionally failing missions, Chaosdivers have been known to make their own Major Orders to still do their part and play a unique role in Helldivers 2’s Galactic War.
Since its release, it’s become clear that Helldivers 2 has grown far beyond the studio’s expectations, so the creation of groups like the Chaosdivers likely comes as a big surprise to both fans and developers alike. In hindsight, groups like the Chaosdivers are all the more reason why Helldivers 2 should bite the bullet and introduce an in-game clans feature. However, even without proper in-game methods for organizing, the overall Helldivers 2 community is still packed with some seriously dedicated, hopeful fans despite all the recent controversies the game has faced.
