Helldivers 2 leans heavily on parody to establish the tone of its fiction. In the vein of popular films like Starship Troopers, the game portrays Super Earth as a cartoonishly authoritarian regime, one that throws millions of lives away on unending military expeditions against its alien enemies. That hasn't stopped Helldivers fans from playing along with joking expressions of patriotism and camraderie as they dutifully fight against waves of Terminids, Illuminate, and Automatons.

Leaks have teased a new enemy type, and if true, a powerful Helldivers 2 faction may become even more of a force to be reckoned with.
Some of these patriotic displays also extend into real life, as was the case with a physical replica of the distinctive Super Earth flag that a player flew outside their home. That player, who goes by DogsOverEasy on Reddit, apparently caught the attention of a fellow Helldivers 2 fan who gifted them with a surprise token. DogsOverEasy received a letter congratulating them for their "contribution to Super Earth." Accompanying the letter was a Helldivers 2-themed keychain based on the appearance and inputs to call in a Hellbomb Stratagem.

Fans were delighted by the expression of "Super Earth solidarity," praising the Helldivers fan community and developer Arrowhead Game Studios for helping foster the sense of connection between players. Other players also expressed their patriotism, jokingly typing out jingoistic pro-Super Earth slogans and declaring the supremacy of Managed Democracy. They said that the Hellbomb token was a perfect gift to celebrate players' victory in the recently concluded Battle for Super Earth event, which kicked off when Arrowhead launched the game's Heart of Democracy update.
Many players were also amused by the letter, which mentioned that DogsOverEasy had earned a "C-01 Permit" in recognition of their contributions. The C1 Permit is a license to reproduce in Helldivers 2 lore, and the need to get or earn one heavily implies that having children (or attempting to have them) without authorization from the government is a punishable offense. Other fans jokingly inspected photos of DogsOverEasy's Super Earth flag, scrutinizing some of the ways the flag might be a "traitorous" unofficial replica and comparing it to the "One True Flag" in-game Stratagem, which deploys a Super Earth flag on a spear to use as a combat weapon. They pointed to inconsistencies in the design that marked it out as an imperfect recreation, but declared that DogsOverEasy's patriotic fervor warranted skipping punishment for the "offense."
