Following the Escalation of Freedom update, Helldivers 2 has received an all-new premium Warbond called Freedom's Flame that is all about igniting an inferno in the ongoing galactic war. In addition to bundling new weapons, armor, capes, and emotes, Freedom's Flame adds a new booster called Firebomb Hellpods for players to try out in their next deployment. This is the first booster in Helldivers 2 that affects your Hellpods by turning them into explosive bombs. Here is what the booster does and whether it is worth the number of Super Credits and Warbond Medals needed.
Helldivers 2: How to Beat the Spore Charger
Helldivers 2 has received a brand new Terminid bug called Spore Charger. Here's its weakness and how to stop it in its tracks.
How the Firebomb Hellpods Booster Works
The Firebomb Hellpods booster transforms all your Hellpods into mini incendiary grenades in Helldivers 2. Every time a Hellpod lands, it ignites the ground and burns everything in an 8-meter radius around the drop site. That includes your Respawn Pods, Resupply Pods, Support Weapon Stratagem Pods, Emplacement Stratagem Pods, and even Hellbombs.
The blast radius does some initial damage and knocks back enemies, teammates, and yourself, following which the burning effect does a few ticks of damage. The flames, however, last for only a few seconds. So, remember to wait until the ground clears before picking up your favorite support weapon in Helldivers 2.
Firebomb Hellpods can be found on Page 3 of the Freedom's Flame Warbond in Helldivers 2. You will need 290 Medals, which includes the amount required to unlock the third page and the booster itself.
Are Firebomb Hellpods Worth Unlocking in Helldivers 2?
While they sound perfect for a Flamethrower or Pyro build in Helldivers 2, Firebomb Hellpods are more of a gimmick with more cons than pros. The booster ends up killing more friendlies than enemies during a mission because muscle memory forces every player to stand near a Support Weapon or Supply Drop. You are also likely to drop near a teammate to quickly get back into combat, which means a high chance of burning them to a crisp.
Furthermore, smaller maps, especially for defense missions, make it incredibly difficult to avoid the explosive radius as players reinforce each other or drop Sentries. It falls on the team to notice during the loadout phase that someone among them has equipped the Firebomb Hellpods booster. This lets them change their gameplay accordingly, and most importantly, not summon their Support Weapons in a cluster at the start of a mission.
Terminids are highly weak to fire damage compared to Automatons. Firebomb Hellpods can effectively kill smaller bugs, and do massive damage to larger enemies such as
Bile Titans and
Chargers provided you land on them.
Lastly, there are better boosters available in Helldivers 2 that offer a lot of advantages. Hellpod Space Optimization is critical for every team loadout. Vitality Enhancement and Stamina Enhancement offer a ton of value. Experimental Infusion is perfect for increasing your survival chances. Compared to them, Firebomb Hellpods can hardly be expected to be meta in the current state of the game.
