The Weapon Customization system in Helldivers 2 lets players stick attachments and paint their favorite guns in a variety of ways. However, most customization options are locked, and before players can use them, they first need to level those weapons up (and spend piles of Requisition afterward).
Leveling up your guns will absolutely take a while, and if you want to make full use of Helldivers 2's Weapon Customization system, you'll need to sink a bunch of hours into using only the guns you want to level up. If you're looking for the most efficient way to unlock attachments and patterns, here's a guide covering how weapon XP works in Helldivers 2, as well as some recommended methods for XP farming.
Helldivers 2: All Boosters, Ranked
We're ranking every booster in Helldivers 2 from worst to best. Discover the top picks for optimal loadouts and effective team coordination.
How Does Weapon XP Work in Helldivers 2?
Weapon XP appears to be directly tied to the amount of XP you earn in missions. You don't need to sit in one spot and farm one bug breach after the other — instead, you'll want to complete your missions as quickly as possible while also completing every side objective on the map. With that being said, playing on Super Helldive difficulty is recommended for leveling up weapons fast..
Best Way to Farm Weapon XP in Helldivers 2
If you want an optimized weapon XP farming method, then the best thing you can do is run Eradication and Blitz: Search and Destroy missions. The former rewards about ~1k XP per run, while the latter gives ~2k XP even if you miss a side objective. Both take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete, and they finish even faster based on your performance.
When picking an Eradication mission, any faction will do, so just go with whatever you're most comfortable fighting. However, if you want to do the Blitz route, we recommend fighting Automatons. This is because most Automaton side objectives and outposts can be wiped out by Support Weapons, orbital bombardment stratagems, and the reliable Anti-Tank Emplacement.
You're free to rock whatever loadout you want, but for fast clears, try any of the following:
- GP-31 Ultimatum
-
G-123 Thermite Grenade
-
LAS-99 Quasar Cannon
-
Orbital 120Mm He Barrage
-
Orbital Walking Barrage
-
Orbital Laser
-
Eagle 500Kg Bomb
With this loadout, all you need to do is run, dodge bullets, and shoot every Fabricator you see with the Quasar Cannon. You can also use the Recoilless Rifle for this, but Quasar Cannon lets you stay mobile at the cost of a slower fire rate.
Stick Thermite Grenades onto Fabricators while your Quasar Cannon is cooling down, and if you're going up against a Fortress or a Heavy Outpost, call in an Orbital Laser and let it clear everything for you. For smaller side objectives like AA Emplacements or Detector Towers, call in an HE Barrage.
Stratagem Jammers are going to be difficult, but if you spot on that has a Fabricator next to it, destroy the Fabricator first. The resulting explosion should destroy the Stratagem Jammer as well.
The Ultimatum no longer destroys objectives like Detector Towers and Stratagem Jammers, but they're still useful for destroying Fabricators without having to target the vents or open doors.
As of the 1.003.000 update, players now contribute to Planetary Liberation progress on a per-mission basis.
