The long-awaited MLS-4X Commando Launcher has finally arrived to strengthen the front lines in the ongoing galactic conquest of Super Earth. Returning from the first game, the four-barrel rocket launcher packs enough explosive power to punch through armored enemies in Helldivers 2. It features two firing modes, allowing you to decide whether to track long-range targets with precision or rain hell on priority targets in close-medium ranges.
The quad launcher is based on the iconic weapon used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Commando movie. It arrives at the heels of the Viper Commandos Warbond, which is incidentally also themed around Schwarzenegger's Predator movie. If you are in the market to do some explosive damage, here is how to get and use the Commando Rocket Launcher in Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2: Best Mods to Install Right Now
This might come as a surprise but Helldivers 2 has a dedicated modding community, which has slowly been pumping several high-quality mods.
How to Get the Commando Rocket Launcher
The MLS-4X Commando can be unlocked from the Patriotic Administration Center for 8,000 Requisition Slips in Helldivers 2. It does not require you to own a premium Warbond. The explosive support weapon was made available after the successful defense of Planet X-45 against an onslaught of Automatons. Returning players who skipped the Major Order can also access the new rocket launcher by jumping back in.
Remembering stratagem button inputs in Helldivers 2 comes in handy when overwhelmed by enemies. If you are looking to main the new MLS-4X Commando, its stratagem code is Down, Left, Up, Down, and Right.
How to Use the Commando Launcher in Helldivers 2
Something important to know beforehand is that the MLS-4X Commando fires laser-guided rockets. It does not feature an auto-locking (fire and forget) system. When firing the weapon, make sure to keep your laser pointer on the target for increased accuracy.
While the rockets follow your laser, there is little room for deviation. You cannot fire into the air and expect the rockets to change course mid-flight. That would be too overpowering and ruin the balance of Helldivers 2. That said, you do get a couple of extra seconds to laser-guide rockets into targets at long ranges.
The laser pointer can be disabled by accessing the weapon's firing mode in Helldivers 2. This makes the Commando fire unguided rockets perfect for close-to-medium engagements, similar to the
EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank.
The Commando can fire up to four anti-tank rockets without reloading. The weapon, however, is disposable. You cannot salvage ammunition boxes or use Supply Pack stratagems to get more rockets. Once a Commando has fired all four rockets, it automatically gets thrown away like the
EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank.
Hence, you will be calling down new Commando replacements throughout your mission. The weapon has a 120-second cooldown and a 3-second call-in-time. Both can be reduced to 108 and 0 seconds by unlocking the Streamlined Request and Launch Processes, two excellent ship module upgrades found under the Patriotic Administration Center and the Engineering Bay. Do not worry about spending your hard-earned Samples here. Reducing the timers ensures you always have a fully loaded Commando Rocket Launcher on hand.
Unlike the
AC-8 Autocannon or
FAF-14 Spear, the MLS-4X Commando comes without an ammunition support backpack for you to carry around. Hence, consider taking the Commando with
AX/LAS-5 "Guard Dog" Rover Guard Dog Rover, one of the best backpack stratagems in Helldivers 2.
