The SEAF Artillery is one of the most powerful Stratagems you can hope to equip in Helldivers 2. It fires up to five artillery shells to blast a targeted area with fire, electricity, and smoke. That also includes a mini-nuke with a massive blast radius similar to the Hellbomb in the Sabotage Supply Bases missions.
The good news is that the SEAF Artillery is free to unlock. The bad news, though, is that you can only access it by randomly finding its artillery site during missions. Hence, the SEAF Artillery has no set location in Helldivers 2. You can only keep your fingers crossed to spot this giant cannon while exploring beyond the main objectives.
Updated March 15th, 2024 by Russ Boswell: Activating the SEAF Artillery in Helldivers 2 is incredibly helpful as it gives players access to an array of extra weapons that can be used to help defend or capture objectives. Unfortunately, finding the SEAF Artillery is random, and completing the objective to activate it can be a bit confusing for first-time players. To better help players understand how to find and complete the SEAF Artillery side objective in Helldivers 2, the following guide has been updated with a video.
Helldivers 2: 10 Tips For Solo Players
Helldivers 2 is centered around squads of up to four players fighting against alien threats. Going alone requires extra preparation.
How to Load SEAF Artillery Gun in Helldivers 2
The first thing you need to do is activate the nearby artillery terminal. That will begin the loading process in which you have to insert a maximum of five ammo shells into the artillery gun. The shells will always be scattered around the artillery site, so you will have to find and carry them back to the SEAF Artillery one by one.
You will be unable to sprint while carrying a shell. Have a co-op teammate provide cover, or pull out your weapon to drop the shell in case you are being attacked.
There are four types of artillery shells, each with a different color and effect. There is no guarantee that the SEAF Artillery you find in Helldivers 2 will have all four types. Their availability will always be random. Their effects and damage are below.
|
Shell |
Color |
Effects |
|---|---|---|
|
Explosive Shell |
Red |
It does the most damage on impact out of all three types of shells. Any enemies that survive or pass through the blast area will also be dealt fire damage over time. Red Shells should always be prioritized when loading a SEAF Artillery. |
|
Static Shell |
Blue |
It does lesser damage compared to Napalm Shells but will ignore the enemy armor. The blast area will also have an electric field afterward that slows and stuns all enemies caught within. |
|
Smoke Shell |
Yellow |
It does the least damage out of all three types of shells while creating a smoke screen in the blast area to provide cover. |
|
Nuke Shell |
Yellow |
It nukes an entire area, leaving nothing but ashes. Each artillery site has a chance to only have one of these. They look similar to Smoke Shells, so you will need to read their item prompts to confirm what type of shell you are carrying. |
Something extremely important to know here is that the SEAF Artillery fires shells in the order they were loaded. Unfortunately, the game does not inform you which type of shell you are firing next, so you have no other choice but to remember the order by heart.
Once you are done loading five shells, head back to interact with the terminal to ready the SEAF Artillery in Helldivers 2. You can now call in a mini-nuke at any point in the mission.
How to Call in SEAF Artillery Strike
The SEAF Artillery functions just like another Stratagem in Helldivers 2, meaning that you have to punch in a series of directional prompts to call in an artillery strike. You can open your Strategem menu (top-left corner) to confirm the prompts: Right > Up > Up > Down.
Since there is no way to reload the SEAF Artillery, make sure to call in all five strikes before extraction. There is no point in saving them.
