The future of Helldivers 2 can be seen as bright, considering the amount of effort Arrowhead Game Studios has willingly put into its creation. As the game's growth continues, players speculate on what content it will eventually receive, which is exciting considering its unpredictable nature. One of those things the community thinks about is the next crossover event for Helldivers 2 and what it could offer. Among the many possibilities, there is one that has the potential to provide one of the best things the game could ask for: a new faction for players to take on.
Helldivers 2 shows that it's capable of doing crossovers, as the one it did with Killzone in December 2024 was well-received, even with its issues. Its point was to provide the game with more content that people would enjoy, and it certainly managed to do that. The crossover's success opened the floodgates to other potential games to be a part of the Helldivers 2 universe, and though there are many candidates, one seems to stand out from the rest because of its potential: Dead Space. The franchise would certainly fit well with Arrowhead Game Studios' creation because of its setting. However, the possibility of introducing a fourth faction is what makes it such a compelling crossover possibility.
Helldivers 2 Has a Massive Opportunity with the Meridian Singularity
The Meridia Singularity has been the biggest Helldivers 2 event to date. However, with the looming threat of the Meridia black hole is also a massive opportunity for Arrowhead Game Studio. Arrowhead has a few avenues they can take with the inevitable conclusion of the singularity.
How Helldivers 2 Can Introduce Dead Space’s Necromorphs as the Fourth Faction
While there are a lot of potential crossovers players believe should happen in Helldivers 2, it's the one with the Dead Space franchise that seems to have the best potential for putting a new faction into the game. This is especially true considering the different ways it can do so:
- The game could introduce a storyline that involves players having to explore an abandoned space station to retrieve valuable data, resulting in not only introducing Dead Space's Necromorphs as a new faction, but also a new environment that has yet to be introduced.
- There could be a new mission that involves going to a planet where the Black Marker artifact or fragments of it were discovered by its inhabitants, resulting in them turning into Necromorphs, and players having to eradicate them.
- Given that they're beings with a continued existence, the Brethren Moon from the Dead Space franchise could suddenly show up to continue their purpose of wiping out every living being in the universe, justifying the introduction of Necromorph units as a new faction.
It's certainly a crossover that shouldn't be off the table for Helldivers 2, as it shows a lot of potential in making the game more interesting. Hopefully, Arrowhead Game Studios will consider the idea, as it could result in a new faction and many more opportunities for achieving additional success.
Why Introducing the Necromorphs as Helldivers 2’s New Faction Would Be Good for the Game
Helldivers 2's crossover with Killzone certainly provided a lot of content for players to enjoy, but one with the Dead Space franchise could go beyond just armor and weapons. If the Necromorphs were to be brought in as new enemies to face, it could give the game something that it has been missing, even with all the terrifying enemies it has: an element of horror. While they can be somewhat scary when placing players in seemingly unwinnable situations, facing down the units of the established factions doesn't exactly induce that feeling of perpetual fear, especially since they're faced out in the open. However, Arrowhead Game Studios could change that with the Necromorphs, using them as a reason to include more claustrophobic environments that emphasize the potential fourth faction's grotesque and terrifying designs, making for many haunting and exhilarating moments in Helldivers 2 that could make even horror game enthusiasts want to try it.
The lack of a roadmap for Helldivers 2 means just about anything can happen, which means that the future may see the game crossing over with the Dead Space franchise and putting in the Necromorphs as a fourth faction. If it does happen, the many different directions Arrowhead Game Studios can go with it could allow the developer and its creation to reach heights that would not have been possible if the opportunity hadn't been taken.
