The world of Helldivers 2 has never been the same since the return of a familiar threat. Fighting the Illuminate faction again after so long has shown just how much the enemy has grown since the previous game, and it is because of how much it has changed that it has made the game's combat more exciting and engaging. However, despite how good the addition is, there are still some areas that can be improved to make it even better, and there is a particular one that could use some attention from Arrowhead Game Studios.
The Illuminate threat was a dangerous enemy in the game before Helldivers 2, and its return shows that it still intends to stop Super Earth's efforts toward galactic freedom. Players who engage the faction are prepared to take on missions like destroying monoliths, evacuating civilians, and retrieving important information. And while that sounds fun, it feels as if there's potential for even better ones, as the Illuminate has the opportunity to introduce even better objectives. Given how advanced this faction is compared to the rest, Arrowhead Game Studios should be able to come up with new missions that will allow it to stand out further and enhance the gameplay experience to a quality that surpasses its current state.
Helldivers 2 May Have Shot Itself in the Foot By Shadow-Dropping the Illuminate
Helldivers 2’s arguably anticlimactic release of the returning Illuminate enemy faction may prove to be troublesome for the game’s longevity.
What New Mission Objectives Can Be Added to the Illuminate Faction
Helldivers 2's Illuminate faction may have grabbed players' attention as soon as they arrived, but the general fanfare around it has faded since. One of the best ways the returning enemy can keep ensuring that it remains relevant is if it introduces mission objectives tied exclusively to it, and there are a few ideas that can come to mind:
- There could be an objective wherein players are required to protect a town and its civilians while working together with them to fend off the Illuminate, with a chance of the enemy turning them into Voteless in front of players should they fail
- Players can be required to take on, subdue, and capture a particular Illuminate unit for interrogation, allowing for an escort type of mission but one that poses more risk of threatening the lives of the captors
- An objective wherein players must destroy a large, bulky, and technologically advanced unit that threatens the planet can be introduced, similar to the way of dealing with the Illuminate's Warp Ships but on a much grander scale
The Illuminate is a force to be reckoned with, but even it will need to see some improvements as the game continues to grow. Hopefully, Arrowhead Game Studios will consider such ways to improve the faction, or at least something similar to them, so that playing Helldivers 2 continues to be a fun and exciting experience.
Why the Illuminate Should Be Given New Mission Objectives
Aside from preventing the faction from getting stale, introducing new missions is a great way to help introduce more new content into the game. For example, a new objective could be responsible for updating the current units of the Illuminate, allowing for the introduction of something new to do and take care of. It may even result in the creation and addition of new equipment, which can be designed in a way that specifically makes use of the faction's technology to stop whatever it is they're trying to do next. Many other possibilities can come from introducing new mission objectives when facing the Illuminate and each opportunity could improve the game if done right.
Helldivers 2 has a tough choice regarding whether it should add more missions for the Illuminate, as perhaps the faction could make do without them until much later in the game's life. Still, Arrowhead Game Studios should consider it, as there seem to be more benefits to doing so, besides withholding the idea or not implementing it at all.
