Helldivers 2 releases a new update for its Into The Unjust content, attempting to fix many of the current issues plaguing the experience for players. It's been a rough couple of months for Helldivers 2, as Arrowhead Game Studios attempts to fix and adjust the problems that have arisen from its big September update.
Since the launch of Into the Unjust, Helldivers 2's performance has seemingly taken a turn for the worse, with player frustration rising over technical issues like poor optimization, a rising file size, and other performance issues. In fact, things have gotten so bad that even the Helldivers 2 game director admitted the game is starting to break at the seams. Still, Arrowhead Game Studios continues to plug away on the game, releasing its latest update.
Frustrated Helldivers 2 Players Discover Secret 'Undocumented' Enemy Buffs
Following a recent update, Helldivers 2 players are frustrated due to a lack of transparency from Arrowhead due to enemies being secretly buffed.
Update 4.1.1 from Arrowhead Game Studios continues to address a number of crashes that Helldivers 2 players have been reporting, including ones resulting from "hotjoining" a game that has already started or when certain encounters are triggered. In addition, the update makes further optimizations to the game, from frame stutters, tree destruction, and low resolution textures for PC players. Finally, the patch also makes a handful of miscellaneous adjustments, like unused textures being loaded into the game's memory accidentally, or haptic feedback being missing after a controller disconnects and then reconnects.
While the patch may be smaller in size, it will likely be followed by additional updates as the performance issues in Helldivers 2 won't be an easy fix. The rising issues have even forced Arrowhead to significantly adjust its content release plans, as the studio has had to delay some future content updates in order to prioritize the current tech debt and other critical issues. Thankfully, some of the issues are small enough that they are able to address them quickly, though there are some which will require some extra time.
Part of the cleanup process appears to center around the game's current anti-cheat system, which players have highlighted as one potential reason why the performance has struggled. Helldivers 2's GameGuard anti-cheat is one feature which Arrowhead is looking at removing, though the studio's CEO Shams Jorjani set expectations by calling it a "hydra head" and indicating that it won't be easy, likely requiring a careful approach as to not break other parts of the game unintentionally.
