A recent leak suggests that the next Premium Warbond for Helldivers 2 may feature a crossover with Killzone. Fans of the dormant PlayStation first-person shooter franchise have been clamoring for a revival, and while a new Killzone game seems unlikely, a potential Helldivers 2 crossover seems to be on the horizon.
After facing several ups and downs throughout 2024, Helldivers 2 has finally settled into a stable rhythm with its player base. Developer Arrowhead Games recently pushed a major rebalancing update for Helldivers 2 that restored favor with many fans, leading to the game's Steam user reviews spiking back up to "Overwhelmingly Positive." The Game Awards 2024 brought more glad tidings for Helldivers 2 players with the Omens of Tyranny update announcement, which finally folds the long-awaited Illuminate faction into the Galactic War.
The good news doesn't stop with Helldivers 2's Omens of Tyranny update, though. A recent datamine of the game from Twitter user Iron_S1ghts hints at a crossover between Helldivers 2 and Killzone in a future Premium Warbond dubbed "Righteous Revenants." Killzone is one of the most requested crossovers for Helldivers 2, so it's great to see that the co-op shooter's very first crossover event might be centered around Guerrilla Games' long-dormant first-person shooter series. Much like previous Helldivers 2 Premium Warbonds, Righteous Revenants will introduce armor, weapons, items, etc. Inspired by Killzone games.
Leaked Righteous Revenants Warbond for Helldivers 2 Reveals Killzone Crossover
One of the upcoming Killzone-inspired armor sets for Helldivers 2, labeled the "AC-1 Dutiful," was revealed in a separate tweet by Iron_S1ghts. The armor very much echoes the Killzone aesthetic, complete with the menacing yet iconic red eyes, gas mask, somber colors, and tactical gear. As for when Helldivers 2's Righteous Revenants Warbond will be released, the dataminer suggested that it could take precedence over the Urban Legends Warbond due to some "UI issues" in the latter. However, the Urban Legends Warbond launched alongside Helldivers 2's Omens of Tyranny update a few hours ago, so it seems likely that Righteous Revenants is up next on the release order, provided Arrowhead doesn't run into any issues.
Both Killzone and Helldivers 2 heavily lean into sci-fi military themes, so a potential crossover between them would feel quite natural. Additionally, this rumored Helldivers 2 crossover comes at a rather opportune time, as Guerrilla Games confirmed some time ago that it has entirely moved on from the Killzone franchise. Many Killzone fans felt disappointed by the news, with some even wanting to license the IP from Sony to make a new entry themselves. Therefore, Arrowhead is in a very advantageous position to capitalize on the lack of Killzone acknowledgment and further build goodwill among the Helldivers 2 community.
