The annual Liberty Day celebrations in Helldivers 2 are now underway, and players have just a few hours to enjoy a round of 'Whack-a-Terminid' as part of the festivities. Helldivers 2 players can also claim the exclusive Liberty Day's Cape after collectively killing 40 million enemies with the R-2124 Constitution ceremonial rifle by October 27.
Held annually on October 26, Liberty Day in Helldivers 2 marks the day when Super Earth and the Federation host a bombastic and overtly patriotic commemoration of Managed Democracy. Liberty Day has been observed since 2016, when the original Helldivers game celebrated its first anniversary. The October 26 date is also significant in the real world, as it marks the birthday of Arrowhead Game Studios' Chief Creative Officer, Johan Pilestedt, who has been with the company since its founding in 2008. Helldivers 2 first celebrated Liberty Day shortly after its 2024 launch, as players could earn rewards like the DP-00 Tactical armor set.
Helldivers 2 Players Can Whack Some Terminids For Liberty Day
For this year's Liberty Day festivities, Helldivers 2 players have just a few more hours to take a swing at an exclusive minigame. Arrowhead launched Whack-a-Terminid as a desktop browser game that will only be available during the 2025 Liberty Day festivities. Helldivers 2 players can use their mouse to click on Terminid enemies that will periodically appear out of eight potential holes. The game ends once players run out of time, and the timer can decrease if players take too long to hit a Terminid or if they hit any Helldivers that can pop out of the holes. Helldivers 2 players who connect their Discord accounts with the Whack-A-Terminid site can then save their high scores on a leaderboard for bragging rights. Additionally, Helldivers 2 players can claim a Liberty's Day Cape after collectively killing 40 million enemies with the R-2124 Constitution rifle while the event is active.
The 2025 edition of Liberty Day comes at a controversial time for Helldivers 2, as the PC version has seen some performance issues that have resulted in the Steam version dropping to a Mixed rating. Although optimizations for the PC version are planned, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani said the process of fixing Helldivers 2 would take several months. Some optimizations went live on October 23 with Helldivers 2's Patch 4.1.0 content update.
Though Helldivers 2 has adjusted its release calendar to focus on optimizations and bug fixes, the annual Liberty Day event came right on schedule. Only time will tell how many Helldivers 2 players will get on the Whack-A-Terminid leaderboard.
