As Arrowhead begins a two-week vacation, Helldivers 2’s Galactic War is ongoing, and players surely have no shortage of content to enjoy in the meantime. Democracy’s fate has been left in the competent and calloused hands of the Helldivers 2 playerbase, who recently failed a Major Order that allowed the Automatons to get their metal mitts on a DSS facility on Claorell. Now, without a particularly narrative-focused goal orchestrated by Arrowhead, players are instead given a Major Order that has them slaying some of the most menacing enemies that each faction has to offer.
Helldivers 2’s current Major Order, with five days left, reads:
-
Kill the designated number of each of the enemies that most frequently plague our citizens’ nightmares.
- Kill 20,000,000 Shriekers
- Kill 12,500,000 Impalers
- Kill 6,250,000 Factory Striders
- Kill 7,500,000 Fleshmobs
- Kill 3,750,000 Leviathans
But while this MO is great for its simplicity, it’s also an intriguing litmus test for what enemy factions players may gravitate toward, whether that’s an intentional or inadvertent byproduct of this MO’s design. Therefore, based on which objective fills quicker, Arrowhead will be able to tell where Helldivers’ hearts lie.
Helldivers 2’s Incineration Corps Puts the ‘Hell’ in Helldivers
Helldivers 2's Automatons are always fierce threats, but the Incineration Corps sub-faction adds an extra spicy layer with incendiary nightmare fuel.
Helldivers 2’s Bugdivers, Botdivers, and Squiddivers Enjoy a Communal Feast
Helldivers 2’s Major Order involving all three enemy factions invites as many players as possible to participate with as little effort as simply killing enemies that they enjoy killing. Players can always decide to dive onto planets of enemy factions who aren’t the focal point of an MO, too, but it’s satisfying when players’ efforts all meaningfully contribute to Helldivers 2’s lore progressing with successful tasks and the reward of 50 or so Warbond medals.
The Illuminate’s Leviathans Will Make or Break this Major Order
Being able to see how a Major Order is faring in real time is fascinating due to what it can suggest about the playerbase’s preferences, as well as what they may tend to avoid or what enemies may give them the most trouble. At the time of this writing, the percentages fulfilled for each enemy type killed in the MO are as follows:
- 6,611,543/20,000,000 Shriekers (33.1%)
- 1,114,465/12,500,000 Impalers (8.9%)
- 398,348/6,250,000 Factory Striders (6.4%)
- 3,914,544/7,500,000 Fleshmobs (52.2%)
- 70,487/3,750,000 Leviathans (1.9%)
These live statistics firmly determine that the enemy players are least willing or able to slay are the Illuminate’s Leviathans, which is not surprising in the slightest. 70,487 is still a staggering number of Leviathans when compared to how many any individual player may have managed to send careening out of the sky since they arrived, of course, but having 3,750,000 to kill in total, and within the next five days, no less, is enough to make a SEAF unit’s heart sink to their stomach. It’s especially evident that players may be electing to ignore Leviathans because Fleshmob kills are in the lead for the MO with a whopping 50% completion so far, so it’s not as if players are outright refusing to dive onto Illuminate planets.
To be fair, players will come across far more of Helldivers 2’s Fleshmobs in any given Illuminate mission than they will a Leviathan, and thus even players who are actively pursuing Leviathans might not be able to contribute much to its score in such a short amount of time.
It will probably take a majority of Helldivers agreeing to play the role of a Squiddiver near the end of the MO in order to hunt Leviathans optimally and effectively. Nonetheless, it won’t be all too alarming or unexpected if Leviathans are what cause this MO to fail. Once Helldivers 2 launches on Xbox, though, it’ll be interesting to see how many more players are able to rally to each MO.
