Helldivers 2 has come a long way in a short period of time. It took the gaming industry by surprise, achieving several milestones, and within just one year, Helldivers 2 set a new standard for live-service games, especially due to its different approach to microtransactions and paid content. During 2024, the game faced backlash over controversial updates and bundles that players didn’t appreciate, prompting Arrowhead to take action to mend its relationship with them. Arrowhead has always maintained an open line of communication and is constantly listening to and addressing player feedback. Now, the developer has released yet another patch addressing plenty of issues.
Helldivers 2 Xbox Petition Passes Major Milestone
It seems more and more gamers are hoping PlayStation's multiplayer hit Helldivers 2 makes its way to Xbox consoles as a popular petition grows.
In a Steam blog post, Arrowhead outlined the changes introduced in Helldivers 2 patch 01.002.201, which mainly focuses on fixes. Game crashes have messed with Helldivers 2 players' experience in the past, and Arrowhead is tackling several of these with this patch. A fix was introduced for a visual issue that triggered a game crash when a large number of particles were displayed. Additionally, the patch resolved crashes that could occur when aiming scoped weapons, playing bot convoy missions, and when players received Microsoft Teams messages while playing the game.
Helldivers 2’s stratagems and weapons have also seen fixes, including addressing flashlight flickering while using ADS and instances where weapons would not charge or overheat as expected. Moreover, the GL-21 Grenade Launcher was fine-tuned to properly launch projectiles, and visual issues were resolved for the LAS-58 Talon. HUD glitches, reloading errors, and temperature problems have also been fixed. Several improvements were also made to the AR-23C Liberator Concussive and the SG-225 Breaker. The update also tackles a problem that was preventing the Account ID from being visible in the Options tab and fixed an issue that made the gas weapons, throwables, and stratagems invert the movement input for the Helldiver. This small patch is already available for players to install.
While the game steadily releases updates and hotfixes to maintain an enjoyable game experience, the Helldivers 2 creative director recently said that Arrowhead doesn’t aim at offering a balanced gaming experience, as “balance” can sometimes undermine the chaotic and fun experience the game offers. Instead, he believes developers should place less importance on this part of game design and focus more on delivering fun. This strategy seems to have played out well for Helldivers 2, though the studio still needs to address balance issues from time to time to ensure a fair experience.

Crash Fixes, Hangs and Soft-locks:
- Fixed a crash that could occur when a large number of particles were displayed

Weapons and Stratagems
- Fixed an issue where the weapon flashlights were flickering while using ADS
- Fixed an issue for energy based weapons not charging or overheating properly
- Fixed an issue with wrong drag setting on the GL-21 Grenade Launcher projectiles that made them lose velocity faster than they should have
- Fixed an issue where shrapnel from surface-hits was forced in a roughly south-west direction. Shrapnel should now properly fly out in a 180-ish arc in the direction of the surface hit
LAS-58 Talon
- Fixed an visual issue when reloading in ADS
- Fixed an issue for not being able to reload without overheating
- HUD fixes to properly show correct Ammo state
- Now properly resets the temperature to 0 when reloading
- Fixed a visual effect issue when holding down the fire button
- Removed a minor charging delay to firing projectiles
Some unintentional changes made their way onto the Liberator Concussive and the Breaker during the last patch. This is a revert of those changes.
AR-23C Liberator Concussive
- Starting magazine amount increased from 2 to 4
- Max spare amount of magazines increased from 5 to 6
- Ergonomic effect increased from 0 to -10
SG-225 Breaker
- Starting magazine amount decreased from 6 to 5
- Max spare amount of magazines decreased from 10 to 7
Social & Multiplayer Fixes
- Resolved an issue where the Account ID was not visible in the Options tab
Miscellaneous Fixes
- Fixed an issue for the gas weapons, throwables and stratagems inverting the movement input for the Helldiver
- The Jarndiver override for the hoverpacks has been turned off effective today. This is reserved for General Brasch and other Super 10 Star Generals(Fixed a bug with the draw and kick emotes that allowed players to stay floating in the air)
