A very recent leak from PlayStation has possibly revealed the next Premium Warbond for Helldivers 2, which will apparently be titled "Freedom's Flame" and bring with it a plethora of fire-themed content. Although Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios confirmed earlier in the month that it would slow down its release cadence of updates for the co-op shooter to focus on quality, it seems an all-new Warbond may be nigh for players.
Since Helldivers 2's unexpectedly successful launch back in February, Arrowhead has regularly supported the live-service title with battle pass updates dubbed "Warbonds." These themed updates generally include new stratagems, weapons, armor, capes, customization options, and more. As far as monetization goes, the Warbonds usually cost 1,000 Super Credits in Helldivers 2, which roughly translates to $10 USD. However, players can find and collect the Super Credits currency while organically playing the game, so real money isn't required to purchase Warbonds.
Arrowhead last released the Viper Commandos Premium Warbond for Helldivers 2 back in June, but prefaced it by stating that future Warbonds will come at a slower pace, as the studio wants to focus on the quality of content in the updates. Interestingly, though, it seems that the next Premium Warbond for Helldivers 2 may not be that far off, as per a recent PSN notification received by Reddit user ExoticBobcat777. Although the notification is headlined "Viper Commandos," the blurb underneath describes an unreleased "Freedom's Flame" Premium Warbond for Helldivers 2 that will apparently be centered around fire.
PSN Notification Might Have Leaked Upcoming "Freedom's Flame" Warbond For Helldivers 2
"Dial up the temperature to cremate our enemies of justice, Helldivers! The Freedom's Flame Premium Warbond is deploying to your Destroyer's Acquisitions panel," states the notification. It also mentions "fiery weapons, life-saving armor, cool capes, fresh emotes, player cards, and patterns," which all appear fairly standard for a Helldivers 2 Warbond. However, the mention of cool capes could hint at the long-awaited addition of the review bomb cape to Helldivers 2. The idea was initially pitched as a joke, but gained enough traction that Arrowhead actually designed the cape and is waiting for the right time to release it.
Beyond the surprising leak, not much is known about the Freedom's Flame Warbond for Helldivers 2, but in keeping with its pyrotechnic theme, players can likely expect more fire-based weapons to sit alongside the flamethrower, and maybe even flame-resistant armor. What's slightly more difficult to predict is when Arrowhead might be looking to release Freedom's Flame, as the studio's reinforced commitment to update quality could mean that the next Warbond doesn't launch in July at all. With Helldivers 2's player counts dipping to all-time lows, however, it'll be interesting to see if Arrowhead releases Freedom's Flame somewhat soon to reignite buzz around the game.
