For a little over a year now, Helldivers 2 has demonstrated how the live-service model can be more beneficial than bothersome. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios' approach to a live-service experience has made Helldivers 2 stand out, which helped make it a quick hit when it launched early last year.
Despite its popularity, Helldivers 2 still has yet to reach the full potential of what it could be. Since its launch, the third-person shooter has been exclusive to the PS5 and PC, leaving many potential players on the outside. While this Sony-exclusive deal has been beneficial in some ways, Helldivers 2 potentially coming to the Switch 2 and Xbox in the future could be the next big step in the game's evolution.
Helldivers 2 Adding a Super Earth Event Could Be a Double-Edged Sword
An event tied directly to Super Earth could be good for Helldivers 2, but it also has a few issues that Arrowead Game Studios must consider.
Helldivers 2 Should Bring Managed Democracy to Switch 2 and Xbox Players
Spreading Super Earth's Influence One Port at a Time
It's important to note that ports for the Switch 2 and Xbox are simply hypothetical and have not been confirmed. However, it hopefully isn't entirely impossible. Since launch, Helldivers 2 has introduced some great surprises and upgrades, and finally branching out to other consoles might be the next best step forward.
A Recent Leak Could Mean Helldivers 2 May Need as Many Players as it Can Get
- Leaker Iron_S1ghts claims that Arrowhead Game Studios is working on a Super Earth invasion event.
- According to the leaks, the Illuminate could be gearing up to attack the home of Managed Democracy.
Of course, since these are leaks, such claims should be met with heavy skepticism, but if true, the biggest event in Helldivers 2 history could be waiting on the horizon. Ever since the Illuminate arrived in the game, the alien super race has proven to be one of the most harrowing enemy factions yet. The Illuminate is capable of immense destruction, and a Super Earth invasion definitely doesn't seem too far-fetched. It may be best for such an event to be a long way down the road, but if that day finally comes, all Helldivers will need to be on deck to protect Super Earth.
Helldivers 2 still has yet to reach the full potential of what it could be.
Clearly, a port to both the Switch 2 and Xbox consoles would bring a treasure trove of fresh players into the mix, making the Helldivers a much stronger fighting force. A larger number of players could make it far easier to succeed in completing Major Orders, which would potentially keep situations like Angel's Venture from happening again. The obliteration of Angel's Venture proved that practically nothing is off limits for Arrowhead's story team, and more firepower on the battlefield would definitely help sidestep major losses.
Helldivers 2 won Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer Game at the 2024 Game Awards.
The Helldivers 2 Community Deserves to Grow
Helldivers 2 made waves last year. Being a smaller team than the AAA studios that launched games last year, Arrowhead Game Studios managed to prove itself as an underdog worth watching. After ending 2024 strong with a variety of awards show wins and strong player numbers, Switch 2 and Xbox ports are bound to only make the experience better. There has already been plenty of demand for an Xbox port of Helldivers 2, and with the Switch 2 on the horizon, branching out to the Nintendo console could be a great new home for the game, as well.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be available on June 5 and will cost $450. There will also be a $500 bundle that includes Mario Kart World.
Of course, only time will tell if Helldivers 2 gets to come to other consoles. The satirical sci-fi shooter can still maintain a strong presence in the industry on PS5 and PC, but it would be exciting to see what new heights the game could reach if both Nintendo and Xbox fans also got to experience Helldivers 2.
