Helldivers 2 has many amazing weapons for people to play around with, and the number available has only grown larger since the game's release. With every new update, players expect that the developer, Arrowhead Game Studios, will provide them with new pieces of equipment to try out in their loadouts. While every release isn't always a hit with fans, one has to appreciate the time and effort put into consistently bringing in such content. Still, sometimes the developer considers what would make its players happy, which is why it was a nice surprise when a Helldivers 2 CEO gave an encouraging response regarding a particular weapon type that had been anticipated.

From the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, one user decided to message Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani directly, sharing the idea of a minigun being added. His response provided the possibility of entertaining its inclusion by asking the game's weapons guy, which means there is a good chance it could happen in the future. The interaction has sparked interest within the community, as putting in a minigun in Helldivers 2 is something that fans have wanted for a while, regardless of how it will affect gameplay.

Why a Minigun Would Do Well in Helldivers 2

While Arrowhead Game Studios has no limit in terms of options on what weapons to add to Helldivers 2, a minigun would likely be a priority above all the others. With what's already available in the game's current arsenal, implementing it would be a good move, considering certain factors:

  • The game could use an additional weapon that would do well against all the units of the Illuminate, Terminids, and Automatons, as more could help diversify players' loadouts.
  • The reason players have been asking for it is likely due to the power it gives and the potential amount of fun it can bring during missions, and its addition would likely incentivize them to continue playing and enjoying the game.
  • It would be a weapon that will be useful in any of Helldivers 2's difficulty levels, which means it will likely be very popular and be immediately purchased by players.

Implementing a minigun may be difficult, especially since Arrowhead Game Studios will have to think about balancing issues, but it would be a worthwhile effort to do so. Since it's already highly anticipated by fans, it further incentivizes the developer to put it in the game sooner rather than later.

Why a Minigun in Helldivers 2 Should Be a Support Weapon

Considering the minigun would have properties similar to Helldivers 2's MG-206 Heavy Machine Gun, it would be too powerful as a primary weapon. Making it into a support weapon would be the logical choice, and doing so would also open up the opportunity for bringing in another firearm that allows two people to operate more effectively than if only one did. Currently, the only pieces of equipment that fall under that category are the FAF-14 Spear and the GR-8 Recoilless Rifle, and the category could use another to bring more attention to it. A minigun would make for an excellent candidate, as it is a weapon known for its destructive capability and bulkiness, whose flaws can easily be circumvented if one person fires while the other feeds it ammunition.

Although adding a minigun is one of the expectations for Helldivers 2, there's no telling when or if it will happen. Players can only hope that it will be added in a future update, and Arrowhead Game Studios should strongly consider making it so, given how much the game could benefit from the move.
