Helldivers 2 game director Mikael Eriksson addresses player concerns over the game's performance, announcing a delay to upcoming content, so the studio can work on improving things. The feeling around Helldivers 2 seems to have shifted somewhat after months of positivity, as technical concerns have left fans concerned.
After the Xbox launch for Helldivers 2, player attention has seemingly turned towards the game's performance. Frustration has been bubbling over the game's optimization, rising file size, and other performance-related problems. In fact, PC players have seen the game's file size bloat to 140 GB, and with each passing update, the number is only likely to grow. To address the concerns and frustrations from the community, Arrowhead reveals its plans for fixing the current problems surrounding Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2 Delaying Updates to Fix Tech Debt Issues
As Helldivers 2 Steam reviews continued to fall to Mixed, CEO Shams Joranji and others at Arrowhead have attempted to address player concerns. In a new State of the Game style video, Helldivers 2 game director Mikael Eriksson revealed that Arrowhead is changing the release cadence of future updates. This delayed schedule will give the dev team more time to fix some of the bigger issues, while also helping to make sure that these future updates help keep the game stable.
Thankfully, Eriksson admitted that some of the issues can be addressed "fairly quickly" and that the team is already making "really big improvements" that will be shared soon. While providing fixes, the team also aims to address these issues so they don't reappear down the road, which will require a bit more time to hammer out. The PC-specific issues surrounding Helldivers 2 file size and loading times may fall into that latter category, as the studio has to consider all the different configurations that could play the game, preventing them from optimizing solely for SSD users or vice versa.
For many, the current technical and performance issues really started to become an issue following the release of the Into the Unjust update for Helldivers 2. The Terminid-focused update let players explore deep, underground caverns, preventing access to Super Destroyers or the Strategems they can provide. From that point forward, the performance and optimization issues started to get progressively worse for many, prompting Arrowhead's response above to try and set things right.
