This makes intuitive sense, as excited players will usually rush to buy a new release, generating the biggest spike in sales. After that, sales begin to drop. Helldivers 2, however, seems to be growing in popularity, drawing in large numbers of gamers who may not have been interested at launch but are now picking it up after hearing about it from others.
This accomplishment demonstrates how much of a phenomenon Helldivers 2 has become. The shooter has managed to not just be a hit at launch but has actually generated greater buzz over time, growing its fan base and becoming more popular. The game has become such a hit that it's even boosting interest in other properties with similar themes or styles. Last month, for example, Helldivers 2 was giving a boost to Starship Troopers, a movie that shares sci-action, giant bugs, and a cynical comedy.
The launch of Helldivers 2 has not been entirely smooth, of course. The burst of popularity led to early server issues and long queues, prompting Arrowhead to release updates, and, last week, the developer announced Helldivers 2 is getting another increase to its server cap.
