The latest Major Order in Helldivers 2 is only a couple of days old. But, considering how quickly a Major Order flies by in relation to how much time individual players may be able to contribute to it in Helldivers 2, let alone which enemy factions players prefer, it’s already plain to see which enemy faction objectives are scheduled to succeed, whereas others may not.

Helldivers 2’s current Major Order, with four days left, reads:

  • Kill the designated number of each of the enemies that most frequently plague our citizens’ nightmares:
    • Kill 20,000,000 Shriekers
    • Kill 12,500,000 Impalers
    • Kill 6,250,000 Factory Striders
    • Kill 7,500,000 Fleshmobs
    • Kill 3,750,000 Leviathans

20,000,000 Shriekers and 12,500,000 Impalers aren’t unfathomable due to how many of them players may see flying and scuttling about, for example, while 6,250,000 Factory Striders and 3,750,000 Leviathans is quite preposterous. At least Factory Striders’ spawns are semi-reliable on nearly any Automaton mission; the Illuminate’s Leviathans, rather, are as remarkably pesky as they are elusive. If anything is going to tank this MO it’s the Leviathan task, and there’s already reason to believe that it will fail because of them. That said, one side objective could be the secret weapon to hunting Leviathans more efficiently, so long as players are treated to it spawning and can actually find it.

Thanks to Helldivers 2’s Current Major Order, It’ll Be Clear What Enemy Faction is Favored

Bugdivers, Botdivers, and Squiddivers all rejoice in Helldivers 2's new Major Order, and it'll be neat to see who comes out on top first.

Helldivers 2’s SEAF SAM-Site is OP, But Far from Convenient

Helldivers 2’s SEAF SAM-Site is a side objective—the one whose mini-map icon looks like a microwave—that has players surfacing a huge anti-air emplacement. It’s tremendously quick to accomplish with only a bit of time spent on a terminal to activate surface-to-air launcher sub-systems, and the advantage players gain thereafter is that it’ll shoot down enemy ships nearby, including Leviathans, with homing missiles.

Players don’t need SEAF SAM-Sites in order to take down these sea-faring-looking squid ships, colloquially referred to as “whales” in Helldivers 2’s player community, as a handful of high-powered stratagems and weapons can take them down with some persistence. And, because of how infrequently players may come across SEAF SAM-Sites in their travels, it might not be best to rely on them wholly for the sake of completing this Major Order. Plus, there’s no guarantee that a Leviathan will spawn near a SEAF SAM-Site, much less at all, even if players do find the side objective. This makes for a niche strategy that stars must align for.

Hunting Leviathans in city missions is a lot more aggravating as players can easily lose sight of them behind enormous skyscrapers; ironically, Leviathans are far and few between on the Illuminate’s colony missions, where SEAF SAM-Sites are known to appear.

Helldivers 2’s Major Order looks like the game’s second failure in a row if Leviathans aren’t found and focused on, yet that’ll be easier said than done. As of this writing, the MO’s live progress is as follows:

  • 10,809,206/20,000,000 Shriekers (54.0%)
  • 1,863,141/12,500,000 Impalers (14.9%)
  • 818,874/6,250,000 Factory Striders (13.1%)
  • 7,500,000/7,500,000 Fleshmobs (100.0%)
  • 256,658/3,750,000 Leviathans (6.8%)

So few Leviathans killed while Fleshmobs’ quota has been filled entirely does suggest that players have had an abysmal go of trying to locate and harpoon these infamous whales, who snipe players with swift aerial strikes and drift through the skies like they’re underwater. Players are obviously enjoying squid missions at the moment, and it might be necessary for Leviathans to receive the same treatment the Automatons’ Factory Striders have received lately, with a significant increase of units spawning on Claorell. If a surge were to occur for Leviathans on Alamak 7, for instance, players might have an emboldened chance to secure the MO and not be forced to arduously roam around in a dire search of Leviathans and SEAF SAM-Sites for the next several days.
