A recent Helldivers 2 leak has uncovered a superweapon “capable of destroying planets” that greatly resembles Star Wars’ Death Star. The Helldivers 2 community is always hungry for fresh content, and this new superweapon could be an interesting addition to the popular cooperative third-person shooter.

Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony, Helldivers 2 has been a big hit. The game was released on PlayStation 5 and PC back in 2024, selling over 15 million units at the time. With its recent release on the Xbox Series X/S, Helldivers 2 surged in popularity once more, nearly tripling its concurrent player count.

Helldivers 2’s GATER Mission is the Ultimate Operation Killer

Helldivers 2's new GATER mission is prone to aggravating and hasty failure, and is inarguably the bane of Into the Unjust's Oshaune operations.

New Leak Indicates That the Automaton Superweapon Will Look a Lot Like Star Wars' Death Star

The popular Helldivers 2 leaker Iron_S1ghts recently revealed a new superweapon that seems inspired by Star Wars’ iconic Death Star. According to Iron_S1ghts, this weapon is capable of destroying planets in a single blast and will be visible on the galactic map. The insider also indicated that the weapon of mass destruction would be made by the automatons, following the construction of Factory Worlds. It’s still unknown when the superweapon will be added to Helldivers 2, but Iron_S1ghts expects it to be available “a bit after Factory Worlds.”

It’s likely that gamers still have months before this superweapon finally makes its debut, but that doesn’t mean that Arrowhead Game Studios has been resting on its laurels. The latest Helldivers 2 patch was launched last week, and while it did not add big chunks of content to the game like the previous “Into the Unjust” update, it made a number of useful tweaks to some weapons and fixed some glitches and issues.

One thing the Helldivers 2 community is eagerly anticipating is improved optimization for PC. Gamers have been increasingly unhappy about file bloat in the PC version of Helldivers 2, which is currently over 140 GB in size. Additionally, players on the platform have been complaining for a while that the title is not optimized to use SSDs, and even powerful PCs sometimes freeze up.

Helldivers 2 lead reveals game concepts.

It remains to be seen what the next additions to Helldivers 2 will be, but the devs will likely keep putting out more content while fixing bugs and generally improving performance. Last month, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani addressed split-screen co-op on Helldivers 2, saying that it’s technically feasible, but indicating that gamers should not expect it anytime soon. Jorjani explained that the team is not sure if this is a feature “people really want,” and the studio will investigate it further before committing the resources to add it.
