Summary

  • The Tien Kwan planet in Helldivers 2 abruptly disappears from the game's files in the midst of a Major Order that involved it.
  • Helldivers 2 players attempting missions on Tien Kwan experienced hard crashes since the biome and map files for the planet don't exist.
  • Arrowhead has responded to the complaints by declaring the associated Major Order a success.

One of Helldivers 2's planets, Tien Kwan, has mysteriously vanished from the game. Not only does this make it impossible for Helldivers 2 players to carry out missions on Tien Kwan, but it also rendered a Major Order unwinnable.

Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 is a highly popular live-service co-op shooter that has players diving onto numerous planets as part of an elite military squadron to extract resources, carry out missions, and kill enemies in the name of liberty. Major Orders are integral to Helldivers 2's live-service angle, where players are given a set of rotating time-limited community objectives. The completion or failure of these Major Orders influences Helldivers 2's in-game narrative, so they hold quite a significance in the meta.

Right now, Helldivers 2 requires an internet connection, but down the road, allowing offline gameplay may be the best path forward.

A recent Major Order tasked Helldivers 2 players with fending off Illuminate forces on Tien Kwan, but this operation ran into some major problems. When players attempted to deploy on Tien Kwan, Helldivers 2 hard-crashed every single time. Expectedly, there was some initial frustration, but it quickly turned into bewilderment once dataminers discovered that Tien Kwan's biome and map files were completely missing from Helldivers 2's directory. With no assets to load, it was impossible for the game to initialize a drop onto Tien Kwan, rendering it impossible for Helldivers 2 players to complete the Major Order.

Arrowhead Reveals the Status of Helldivers 2's Unattainable Tien Kwan Major Order

The Illuminate Threat Has Been Curtailed For Now

However, Arrowhead has been quick to respond to the complaints. While the reason behind Tien Kwan's disappearance from Helldivers 2's files hasn't been explained, the Major Order appears to have turned out a success. Over on Arrowhead's official Twitter account, the studio revealed that Helldivers 2 players have succeeded in curbing the Meridian Singularity, thereby vanquishing the Illuminate enemy faction from the Galactic War, at least for now. The Terminids and Automatons will ostensibly put up "increased resistance" against Helldivers 2 players for the time being.

At the moment, Tien Kwan remains fully under Super Earth's control, and therefore unavailable for any missions in Helldivers 2. Interestingly, this wasn't a one-off technical hiccup, as Tien Kwan had previously been an important location in Helldivers 2's lore - the site where Exosuit stratagems were first introduced and one of the earliest planets to experience Meteor Storms. Tien Kwan's sudden disappearance, right in the middle of a key narrative event, has given rise to speculation that the missing files are part of a major update tied to the anticipated Illuminate invasion, possibly arriving with the next Helldivers 2 Warbond, which is set to debut on May 8.
