Arrowhead Game Studios releases a new update for Helldivers 2, though the big reveal for many players is the arrival of a highly anticipated cape. The item itself has been highly anticipated by players, mentioned and teased over the past few months related to a review bombing campaign that Helldivers 2 was able to overcome.

Recent events in the game, including a climactic battle on Super Earth, as well as Sony removing the region locks on the PC version, have had a major positive impact on the game overall. There also seems to be plenty more in the works at Arrowhead as well, with recent Helldivers 2 leaks teasing an Automaton Homeworld and a new Illuminate enemy type called the Observer could be added in a future update. For now, though, fans can finally get their hands on a long-awaited cosmetic cape.

Helldivers 2’s New Major Order Makes Surprise Change to Some Enemies

A dangerous enemy faction in Helldivers 2 receives a buff that could turn the tides of battle against players by evening the playing field.

In a new announcement, Arrowhead Game Studios is finally releasing the Pillars of Freedom cape to Helldivers 2 players, a cosmetic item which has previously been known as the review bomb cape. The launch of this item has been a long time coming, originally stemming from the PSN Account Linking controversy on PC and the resulting review bombing that followed. While fans have managed to reverse review bomb the game multiple times, the promised cape has been teased by developers and even Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani in recent weeks.

In addition to a new cape, Arrowhead Game Studios released a small hot fix as well. Unlike previous Helldivers 2 updates, this one is a bit on the smaller side, addressing bugs and other issues, including one that prevented weapons from actually firing after stimming while using a mounted weapon. Leviathans are also seeing a nerf in this update after plenty of player feedback. Arrowhead is making a number of changes, including lowering their spawn rates in missions, allowing players to destroy their cannons, and removing their ability to cause ragdolling.

The Pillars of Freedom cape isn't the only cosmetic item that Arrowhead Game Studios has handed out in recent weeks. Following the big Super Earth event in Helldivers 2, with players successfully pushing back the Illuminate forces, Arrowhead Game Studios released a new cape called Protector of the Heart. The Black and Gold trimmed cape features the Helldivers skull logo over the top of Super Earth, with other design details as well.
