Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios has issued an update on a frustrating bug causing game crashes that involves the newly-added weapon customization system. Helldivers 2 launched weapon customization alongside the recent Heart of Freedom update, which brought the Galactic War to the players' home of Super Earth.
Despite being released more than a year ago, Helldivers 2 is experiencing a major surge of activity and popularity following several highly anticipated updates. While the Battle of Super Earth was a temporary exciting event, the more lasting and significant addition has been the implementation of Helldivers 2 weapon customization. The ability to earn and add attachments to upgrade and change the performance of the many primary weapons available in the game was a massive game-changer for many players. Many weapons that were once considered "useless" due to issues with their stat spread or performance were revived and made viable by weapon customization, injecting life back into a huge part of the Helldivers 2 armory.
Helldivers 2 Players Have Another Chance to Get Some Rare Cosmetics, But There's a Catch
Helldivers 2 players can unlock a handful of rare cosmetics right now, but there is a significant caveat that's worth mentioning.
Unfortunately, that update has been causing issues with game crashes, wherein players attempting to access the customization screen can be kicked out of their game entirely. Fortunately, Arrowhead appears to have a resolution to the issue in the works. According to a message from Arrowhead QA Lead Jojo on the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, the studio is testing a fix for the customization crashes "right now." If the fix works, the problem of Helldivers 2 customization crashes should be fixed in the next update. Such a fix would be welcome, as many fans were expressing frustration at being unable to customize their favorite Helldivers 2 weapons without risking a crash.
Helldivers 2 Developer Testing Fix For Customization System Crash Bug
The update from Arrowhead regarding the customization system crashes was largely welcomed by players. Many responding on Discord were relieved to see a fix is on the way. Others worried that the emergence of new bugs coupled with the upcoming debut of Helldivers 2 on Xbox could be a return to the turbulence of earlier in the game's life. Back in those "bad old days," Helldivers 2 suffered from so many technical issues and crashes that patches and hotfixes were being issued every few days. The instability also impacted morale among players and was a major source of stress for Arrowhead staff.
Since then, the game has gotten on firmer footing, with many players looking forward to new content and Arrowhead even adding some long-promised Helldivers 2 items. With luck, the recent frustrations will prove temporary, with players free to continue the Galactic War fighting virtual aliens rather than struggling with real-life bugs and glitches.
