The Weapon Customization feature in Helldivers 2 lets players personalize their favorite guns with different cosmetic-only skins and practical attachments that change how weapons handle. This long-awaited is free for everyone, and while it's not terribly complicated, there's still some depth here that players might be interested in learning about.
Though not every weapon in Helldivers 2 can be customized, players still have a lot to look forward to when it comes to decking out their favorite guns. In this guide, we'll be covering how to use the Weapon Customization system, including how to unlock patterns and attachments, as well as brief overviews of which stat does what.
Helldivers 2: All Boosters, Ranked
We're ranking every booster in Helldivers 2 from worst to best. Discover the top picks for optimal loadouts and effective team coordination.
How to Customize Weapons in Helldivers 2
To customize your weapon, you need to go to your Armory terminal aboard the Super Destroyer. You can't customize your guns at the pre-mission screen, so if you want to swap some things out, it's best to do it before you step into your hellpod.
As of writing, only Primary Weapons are allowed to be customized (except for collab weapons). Go to the Armory terminal, pick a Primary Weapon, then select the Customize option to get started.
Attachments
Most weapons have several attachment slots that players can customize. This includes:
- Muzzle devices for recoil control.
- Underbarrel grips for recoil control, ergonomics, and laser/light combos.
- Magazine options (Short, Extended, Drum)
- Optics (iron sights, red dots, holo sights, and magnified sights)
While nearly all Primary Weapons can be customized, not all of them have the same attachment slots, and even then, not all of them may have the same attachment options available. For example, while SMGs have Underbarrel slots, they don't have the Angled Grip attachment that the assault rifles have.
Attachments are unlocked by leveling weapons up, and before they can be used, players must buy them using Requisition. Weapon XP is earned at the end of every mission, with higher difficulty missions rewarding more XP.
Weapon Stats
Players can now view auxilliary weapon stats by customizing their guns in the Armory. These stats include:
- Horizontal & Vertical Recoil: Dictates how hard a weapon kicks toward either horizontal or vertical axes.
- Sway: Determines how badly a weapon swings when moving or while stationary.
- Ergonomics: Influences how quickly your targeting reticle resets to the center of the screen after moving the camera.
Patterns
Much like attachments, weapon patterns must be bought using Requisition and unlocked by leveling weapons up. These are purely cosmetic and offer no actual benefit to weapon performance.
As of writing, available weapon patterns include:
- Default
- Helldiver (standard black and grey combo)
- Arctic (white)
- Arctic Camo (white with camo pattern)
- Desert (tan)
- Desert Camo (tan with rough desert sand pattern)
- Forest (foliage green)
- Forest Camo (foliage green with jungle camo pattern)
- Urban (light grey)
- Urban Camo (light grey with urban digital pattern)
- Venus (black and yellow)
- Night (pure black)
