Helldivers 2 players theorize that the upcoming Xbox launch date could also coincide with a big in-game event or update. It's been a major week for the Helldivers 2 community, after it was revealed that the popular live service title is expanding its availability to include Xbox players next month.
The announcement came as a big surprise, even though rumors began hinting at a possible move as early as last year. With Sony as the publisher and Helldivers 2 being PlayStation's most successful live-service title, many assumed that the company would rather hold on to that console exclusivity as another draw for its own platform. However, it seems that the appeal of bringing in another big wave of players into the live-service ecosystem was ultimately too strong as Helldivers 2 confirmed an August 26 launch date for Xbox Series X/S.
Helldivers 2 Has Bad News for Xbox Game Pass Subscribers
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios delivers some disappointing news to Xbox Game Pass Subscribers in the wake of a seismic announcement.
Following the Xbox announcement, fans began to dig a little deeper into the launch date and noticed a potentially interesting detail. With Helldivers 2 launching on August 26, players noted that the day also fell on a Tuesday, which is a traditional launch day for new video games. However, Tuesday is also when Arrowhead Game Studios typically release new updates for Helldivers 2. Naturally, players have begun to theorize the Xbox launch day could be part of a bigger plan.
Helldivers 2 Players Believe the Xbox Launch Date Could Be Significant
While everything is pure speculation at the moment, recent content leaks about Helldivers 2 have likely further contributed to this theory. Recently, new Illuminate enemy units have seemingly leaked early, including the Observer, the Xenobite, and what appears to be a sniper-assassin type of unit that can teleport into battle. The leaker did caution that some of these enemies could have been scrapped at some point, so there's no guarantee they'll eventually be added.
However, that isn't all in terms of potential future content. Another recent leak seemingly confirmed the planet of New Cyberstan in Helldivers 2, essentially the Automaton Homeworld. The leaker cautioned that this planet likely won't be added for a while, which takes it out of the running to drop alongside the Xbox version of Helldivers 2. Regardless, fans continue to expect some sort of major event or update to arrive soon, especially a response from the Illuminate faction after players successfully defended Super Earth from their invasion force.
