Highguard is a free-to-play PvP raid shooter where players take on the roles of mounted Wardens trying defend their base and break the walls of their opponent's base. However, with abilities to be used alongside guns and grenades, is it better to use a controller or keyboard & mouse in Highguard? This guide will weigh up the pros and cons of both options.
Best PC Settings for Highguard (Fix Locked FPS)
Players are experiencing performance issues while playing Highguard on PC, so here are some best graphics settings you can try to optimize it.
Using A Controller In Highguard
The advantage of using a controller will always be comfort, as players can sit back and enjoy their games without having to sit up straight at their keyboard and mouse. However, in a competitive PvP game, players will likely want to sit up and focus anyway.
In terms of aiming, the controller isn't as precise or fast as a mouse, and this is also the case when buying items and sorting the inventory in Highguard. As items are bought during the course of the game, potentially with enemies around, it's best to do this fast with a mouse.
Another downside of the controller is that it's easy to accidentally mount up by double-tapping A or Cross. It is then a different button to dismount.
Of course, if players are used to playing FPS games with a controller, and aren't used to a keyboard and mouse, then they will perform better with a controller, and it is a perfectly good option, and is fully supported.

Using A Keyboard & Mouse In Highguard
Typically, a mouse and keyboard are always recommended for competitive FPS games, as a mouse offers higher precision and speed when shooting than the sticks of a controller. This is no different in Highguard, where good aim will still prevail in most scenarios, despite the presence of abilities.
In fact, as most abilities also need to be aimed, it's not just the gunslinging aspect of the game that benefits from using a mouse. With more normal keys for these abilities and actions, such as using grenades, a keyboard has more options than a controller. For example, due to a lack of buttons, the grenade button on a controller is located on the D-Pad, which isn't ideal.
A mouse is also faster for operating all the in-game menus, such as buying items and choosing a location to respawn at. When switching between weapons, players have the choice of using the number keys or the scroll wheel, giving them more options than with a controller.
Overall, a mouse and keyboard are better in most scenarios, and certainly at a higher level. However, both are fine, and it's ultimately up to player preference.
