A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is off in the distance, and while it may be a while before gamers get to see the first look into this follow-up project, it's an exciting game to speculate about. Hogwarts Legacy was one of the most successful games of 2023, which was no easy achievement. Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3 also launched in the same year, proving Hogwarts Legacy's draw.
The game's success paved the way for a sequel, and while Avalanche Software is in the early stages of working on a new chapter, there are already plenty of questions about how the developer plans to improve. The wait for Hogwarts Legacy 2 may be a long one, so it remains to be seen which features are at the top of Avalanche Software's improvement list. Despite the secrecy, developers are hopefully considering how to balance the game's difficulty settings better.

The studio behind the hit Wizarding World prequel game Hogwarts Legacy is now working on a brand-new 'Online Multiplayer RPG.'
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Was Filled With Magic-Focused Fun, But it Wasn't Exactly a Challenge
Choosing between accessibility and difficulty has been a long-running debate in the gaming world. Of course, it's important to have options for every level of player, but Hogwarts Legacy may have embraced casual gaming a little too much. Yes, the game features the common difficulty settings: Story, Easy, Normal, and Hard, but even the Hard setting can be a breeze for a lot of players. RPGs can be a great escape, which makes less-intense settings necessary, but Hogwarts Legacy 2 needs to figure out how to up the ante with its more skill-focused modes.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Can Embrace Both Casual Gamers and Challenge-Focused Players
Options like Story and Easy mode could be kept the same, while Normal and Hard get kicked up a notch, especially Hard. The biggest difference between difficulty levels in Hogwarts Legacy is that each option affects how much damage enemies can inflict and what players can absorb. Even in Hard mode, a lot of players can get through the game with barely taking any damage, but there are ways this can be fixed.
HBO's live-action adaptation of Harry Potter has just announced some of its cast, with John Lithgow set to take on the role of Dumbledore.
How Hogwarts Legacy 2 Can Kick Its Hard Mode Into Gear
- One-shot kills for more powerful spells
- Permadeath
- Less resources
- Automatically limit or remove HUD
Changes like these could be the trick in making Hogwarts Legacy 2 far more satisfying for more hardcore combat fans. Since the Harry Potter franchise attracts a wide variety of fans, it's understandable why Avalanche Software would want to make it as approachable a game as possible, and that's great. On the other hand, though, it can quickly become stale for Harry Potter fans who are into more intense gaming experiences.
If this isn't done with the Hard mode, then maybe a full-blown Hardcore mode could be included, giving even more variety to the game's difficulty options. Hogwarts Legacy brings players into the world of Harry Potter, and there's still plenty of room to immerse fans in the more challenging aspects of being a wizard.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 needs to figure out how to up the ante with its more skill-focused modes.
According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, Hogwarts Legacy was set to get a DLC, but it was recently canceled. Despite this cancellation, Schreier's report claims that the game's sequel is still in development.
More News About Hogwarts Legacy 2 Has Yet to Surface
It will probably be a while before Avalanche Software reveals anything about Hogwarts Legacy 2. No matter what, there will be high expectations for Hogwarts Legacy's sequel, and when the day finally comes to announce such a follow-up, it will be exciting to see how its developers choose to improve its solid first chapter.
