Summary
- Hogwarts Legacy allows players to choose their Hogwarts house, with Gryffindor and Slytherin being popular choices over Hufflepuff.
- Players can explore an open world, learn spells, brew potions, and grow plants while navigating challenging encounters in the game.
- A potential sequel to Hogwarts Legacy could focus on Hufflepuff, shedding light on this underdog house and showcasing its unique qualities.
In Hogwarts Legacy, players have an unprecedented amount of freedom, able to choose which Hogwarts house best suits them. While this was an exciting aspect of what became a hugely successful game, there is an argument for a future Hogwarts Legacy sequel to confine players to one house. Perhaps, even, the one house that deserves its time in the sun the most.

Updated stats for Hogwarts Legacy reveal the most popular house in the game, along with some interesting information on player engagement.
A Brief Hogwarts House History Leading into Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts was founded by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin, with each house named after them. Students are sorted by the Sorting Hat and where they're elected is meant to be determined by the qualities that the house founder prized in their students. This boils down to:
- Gryffindor: bravery, daring, being bold of heart
- Ravenclaw: wit, knowledge, cleverness
- Slytherin: cunning, ambition, an emphasis on pure-blooded families
- Hufflepuff: hard work, justice, loyalty
According to the Sorting Hat, Helga Hufflepuff was willing to take on any students left behind by the other houses. This, and the relatively small role Hufflepuff house played throughout the book series, gave Hufflepuff the reputation of housing unremarkable or even weak wizards. Hufflepuff has earned an 'underdog' reputation as a result, and it's popularity (or lack thereof) is reflected in the statistics on which house players were most likely to sort themselves into regarding Hogwarts Legacy.
Hufflepuff was markedly not dead last, but there were clearly more players interested in either following in Harry Potter's footsteps or investigating the allure of Slytherin, a house with a rather dark reputation. In Hogwarts Legacy, each house has its own exclusive quests, including a trip to the infamous wizard prison Azkaban only accessible by Hufflepuff students. These exclusive missions encourage players to seek out houses beyond the one they decided upon via a personality test or the Sorting Hat (which is a kind of personality test in and of itself, albeit a wholly optional one).
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Be Hufflepuff's Time To Shine
Hogwarts Legacy fulfills a dream many Harry Potter fans have held—the chance to roleplay as a Hogwarts student, choose their own wand, and sort themselves into their favorite house. The first game can serve as a great introduction to the wide Wizarding World, but a Hogwarts Legacy sequel has the opportunity to narrow its focus. In a follow-up game, Avalanche could create a story that sheds much-needed light on the underdog house at Hogwarts.
The Hogwarts house with the least amount of attention and with a dubious reputation has room to grow, and a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy could serve as a perfect proving ground for Hufflepuff.
Just as the quests and companions made available to Slytherin students proved that cunning and ambition weren't synonymous with selfishness and bullying, Avalanche has the chance to show that Hufflepuff's hard work and loyalty don't equate to a lack of talent or being a pushover. Now that players have had the chance to explore their chosen house, it would be acceptable for a sequel to focus on fleshing out Hufflepuff.
After all, Avalanche at last fleshed out what Hufflepuff's humble dormitories and common room look like. Avalanche crafted a cozy, plant-filled common room nestled beside the Hogwarts kitchens for Hufflepuff students to find refuge in. If it took such care to create a common room, there may be hope that it could give Hufflepuff its much-needed time in the sun with a story that highlights what hard work and loyalty can achieve for a scripted Hufflepuff protagonist.
