Hogwarts Legacy managed to be the highest-selling game of 2023, despite being up against a year's worth of strong competitors. The Harry Potter RPG continues to be a hit, and that success has seemingly paved the way for a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
As of now, a sequel is bound to be in the very early stages of development, but Warner Bros. Has hinted that a follow-up could potentially even be tied in with the upcoming HBO Harry Potter adaptation. It's unclear just how much these two may be connected, but if a sequel arrives in the future, it needs to work hard to ensure that mod support is featured across all platforms and not just PC.
Comparing Avowed's Magic Combat to Hogwarts Legacy's
Hogwarts Legacy raised the bar for magic combat in video games, and arguably, Avowed manages to reach those same heights with its own spellcasting.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Having Universal Mod Support is Far Easier Said Than Done
Consoles Have a History of Foregoing Mod Support
The modding community has mostly been a PC-focused group, which can be a bummer for console players. Of course, there are a select few Xbox games that offer mod support, but PlayStation and Nintendo are notorious for not being mod-friendly. One of the few games PlayStation allows to have modified content is Minecraft, and even then, it's not full-blown modding. Add-ons that can be bought through PlayStation's store can help players freshen up the experience, but the Sony console and fellow platforms need to expand their modding horizons.
Xbox is beginning to embrace modding for console players. For example, Starfield players can download mods from the game's official Creation Club.
Hogwarts Legacy Just Launched Official Mod Support for PC
- Avalanche Software brought PC players mod support on January 30.
2025 was immediately off to a good start for Hogwarts Legacy fans who play on PC. Now that the game has mod support, Hogwarts Legacy is bound to have serious longevity for years to come. Although the RPG was a solid offering, a lot of players want more content, and mod support will finally make that happen. Games like Skyrim, Minecraft, and Stardew Valley have incredibly active modding communities that have stretched the game's lifespan further than expected, and Hogwarts Legacy can now join the club.
From canon additions like mermaids to more joke-focused mods, essentially anything is now possible in Hogwarts Legacy, but only for PC players. Warner Bros. And Avalanche Software will have to cut through a lot of red tape to make universal mod support happen, but it's not necessarily impossible. Hogwarts Legacy 2 could follow in the footsteps of Starfield's Creation Club, which would make it simpler to make PlayStation and Xbox mods doable.
Despite No Mod Support On Consoles, PlayStation and Xbox Players Still Have Something to Celebrate
Hogwarts Legacy could be getting its first DLC expansion soon, if rumors are to be believed. If this is the case, then console players will at least have the satisfaction of experiencing fresh content. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, so these DLC claims should be taken with a grain of salt, but such an announcement would be exciting. As the year continues, Avalanche Software will hopefully shed more light on these expansion rumors.
Mod support finally coming to Hogwarts Legacy is a big milestone for the RPG. However, console players missing out on the fun is sure to sting a bit. It's unclear when Hogwarts Legacy's sequel will arrive, but if it does, mod support for the entire player-base will hopefully come along with it.
