Summary
- With its success in 2023, a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is almost certain, as evidenced by leaks and job postings.
- Despite controversy, Hogwarts Legacy outsold big games, proving it's a money-maker for Warner Bros. And Avalanche.
Warner Bros. And Avalanche's Harry Potter hit Hogwarts Legacy made waves in 2023 by bringing the Wizarding World to life in a way no other game in the franchise had done before. As a fifth-year witch or wizard, players had the opportunity to explore iconic locations such as Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, all while progressing through Hogwarts Legacy's original story. Now, things are looking pretty fortunate for Hogwarts Legacy, as a sequel is most likely in development.
Hogwarts Legacy has already proven its worth, so there is little reason there shouldn't be a sequel. This doesn't come as a surprise, given the game's enormous success in 2023. Judging by an overwhelming amount of evidence, although much of it is leaks and rumors, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is all but officially confirmed.
Every Reason Why Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is All But Officially Confirmed
Avalanche and WB Would Be Leaving Money on the Table Otherwise
Despite 2023 being a year full of big, successful game releases, Hogwarts Legacy managed to be its best-selling game, topping the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. By the end of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy had sold more than 24 million copies worldwide across all platforms.
This all came in spite of the game's only generally favorable reception and the controversy that surrounded its release. Now that WB has expressed its intentions to fully embrace the lucrative live-service model, even after it arguably doomed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from the start, it's clear that money is at the forefront of the publisher's mind. As such, it knows it would be leaving money on the table without a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Leak Reported a Sequel Is in the Works
A Twitter user by the name of MyTimeToShineHello has consistently proven they can be relied upon for leaks, as they have a pretty solid track record for major MCU leaks. In September 2023, they shared a post on Twitter saying, "Sources confirmed that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in the works."
Based on the user’s history with leaks in the past, this is likely just another piece of evidence that suggests Hogwarts Legacy 2 is indeed happening at some point and is currently in development. However, there is still plenty of potential that this leak turns out to be a false lead, but even if the leak didn't come from a reliable source, the sequel is presumably in development nonetheless.
Recent Job Advertisements Seem to Confirm Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is in Development
Many highly anticipated games that thrive on rumors leading up to their release are often ousted by job advertisements, and it turns out the same may be true of Hogwarts Legacy 2. A job listing was recently posted on Warner Bros' website seeking a "skilled Senior 3D character artist" for its "blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy." While this could indicate that the publisher is looking for someone to help develop more content for Hogwarts Legacy, it's highly unlikely, as the developer has already made it known that Hogwarts Legacy will not be receiving any DLC.
While that very well could have changed since it was announced, it's more likely that this job listing is in reference to Hogwarts Legacy 2.
With all of the evidence out there seemingly suggesting a Hogwarts Legacy 2 is currently in development, there may be a reveal of some kind in the next year or so, even if it's just a teaser trailer announcement. There is arguably no reason Avalanche and Warner Bros. Wouldn't leap at the opportunity to develop a sequel, so it's all but officially confirmed until an actual confirmation eventually shares more information about it.
