Last year, prior to David Haddad leaving Warner Bros. Games, the exec told Variety that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel will be coordinating some of the "big-picture storytelling elements" of the game with the storylines in the Harry Potter HBO series. It's unclear exactly what this means, but it's possible it may provide some insight into when Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be set.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 'Coordinating' With HBO Series
There has been speculation lately about Hogwarts Legacy 2's setting. The original Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, which meant that the vast majority of recognizable Harry Potter franchise characters were off the table when it came to its story. However, a recent Avalanche Software job listing has suggested that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will feature more established characters from the Harry Potter canon. Considering this, and Haddad's comments from last year, it's entirely possible that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will take place around the same time as the Harry Potter books and movies. Of course, that's just speculation at this time, and it's entirely possible - and perhaps even more likely - that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will go with a different time period.
Taking place concurrently with the Harry Potter books and movies would be interesting, but it would also create all kinds of problems and potential Hogwarts Legacy 2 plot holes. It seems like it would make more sense for Hogwarts Legacy 2 to be set shortly after the events of the first game or in the decades between Hogwarts Legacy 1 and the start of the Harry Potter books and movies. Unfortunately, the Hogwarts Legacy sequel is likely years away from release, so it will be quite some time before we have more context for Haddad's comments.
