Hogwarts Legacy may have been the highest-selling game of 2023, but there were still plenty of ways the wizard-fueled RPG could be improved in its potential sequel. A DLC for Hogwarts Legacy may have recently been reportedly canceled, but there are still plans for a follow-up game. Hogwarts Legacy isn't the only major action adventure sequel in the works, though.

Far Cry 7 has been anticipated for a while now. Ubisoft's franchise has always been focused on sweat-inducing survival stories, and while Far Cry and Hogwarts Legacy approach the action adventure genre in completely different ways, the two find themselves parallel to one another. While Far Cry 7 needs to improve its hero, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in need of a stronger villain.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 and Far Cry 7 Have the Same Problem, But With Opposite Characters

Hogwarts Legacy's Villain Problem

The Goblin Ranrok served as the main antagonist for Hogwarts Legacy, and while having a Goblin as the main villain was an intriguing road to go down, he felt quite lackluster in the long run. His weak motivation made him feel one-dimensional, which ultimately kept the story from reaching its full potential. When it comes to being a truly compelling villain, Ranrok sadly missed the mark, so hopefully Hogwarts Legacy 2 comes out swinging with a larger-than-life villain.

With Ranrok being a weaker villain than hoped for, it at least makes Hogwarts Legacy's protagonist shine a little bit more. Of course, Hogwarts Legacy 2's main character would likely benefit from a much stronger backstory, but thanks to the game's RPG approach, players are able to customize their character's personality more.

HBO's in-development live-action Harry Potter adaptation has recently announced some of its cast, with John Lithgow set to portray Dumbledore. Janet McTeer plays McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu plays Snape, and Nick Frost will play Hagrid. Casting for Harry, Ron, and Hermione has yet to be announced.

Far Cry's Scene-Stealing Villains Leave Far Cry 7 With a Protagonist Crisis

Over the years, Far Cry has featured some of the most iconic villains in gaming. Vaas Montenegro, Joseph Seed, and Pagan Min are just a few of the antagonists that play the star of the show with their giant personalities. From pirates to cult leaders, Far Cry knows how to present a compelling villain that players hate to love.

However, when it comes to its lead characters, the Far Cry franchise often finds itself without a strong hero to go up against the intimidating personalities of its villains. Jason Brody can be seen as an outlier, but ultimately, a lot of the Far Cry leads are found lacking depth. This can make it incredibly hard to form an emotional connection with these main characters, making any consequence of their actions fall flat.

Rumors and leaks have claimed that Far Cry 7 will take place on an island off the coast of Korea. While compelling, this has yet to be confirmed by Ubisoft, so it should be met with skepticism.

The Future of Both Franchises Remains a Mystery

While the two series may be in opposite boats when it comes to how specific characters are addressed, they also find themselves in incredibly similar situations regarding release plans. Right now, there is no clear launch window for either of these games, leaving their respective fan bases waiting for any sign of good news. The next Far Cry game is hopefully around the corner, and with HBO now working on a live-action Harry Potter series, Hogwarts Legacy 2 would likely release around the time of the show's premiere.
